In progress Email notification - Link to new user does not work?

Post by NeilF November 25th 2024, 12:26 pm

So I had half a dozen new users register this morning, so got six emails posted to me informing me of a "New user registration".

When I click the link in these emails I get notificed the user does not exist ("Sorry, but this user does not exist."). eg:- http://hpotd.forumotion.com/profile.php?mode=viewprofile&status=unregistered&u=AHama12

I'm guessing this is because the link is specifying a status of "unregistered"? But since the user is registered, they're not found? ie: Taking that out of the URL, all is then OK. eg:- http://hpotd.forumotion.com/profile.php?mode=viewprofile&u=AHama12

Why does the URL have "status=unregistered" in it, which seems to be unecessary and causes confusion?

Coucou @NeilF,

you usually get the email when they register, and they are not "verified" yet (you may have set Confirmation to "User")
Probably they activated their account right after, and so the user is no longer reachable as "unregistered" through the link you received.

It is a bit tricky I agree Mr. Green

Surely just remove the "&status=unregistered" attribute from the link in the email?

I think that if a user has not activated the account, his/her profile cannot be seen by admins without "&status=unregistered"

The email is intended to be received by admins, and therefore with that label you can see the profile even if it is not activated yet by the user.

You're right.

For an INACTIVE user you have to have "status=registered" in the URL, else no user is found - profile.php?mode=viewprofile&status=unregistered&u=ABC
For an ACTIVE user you must NOT have "status=registered" in the URL, else no user is found - profile.php?mode=viewprofile&u=XYZ

Seems, very odd and unfriendly a URL cannot be supplied in the email which works and shows you the user (& doesn't risk display "Sorry, but this user does not exist") irrespective of if they are active or inactive?
