add login to index page

how do i add the login to the index page without and of guests able to see the forums? do i have to do this in the forums permissions panel?

Go to admin panel=>Forum=>Permissions=>Forum permissions control and click a forum.On the next page make sure that all the options(View the forum, Read the topics etc.) for Guest are unchecked. Then click the Save button. Repeat this process for every forum that you have.
