Moderate each post?
hey, is there a way of enabling a staff member to check each post before the whole world sees it? i have made a club penguin site and dont want any abusive posts in the forum.

Re: Moderate each post?
You mean like a way so that all posts must be approved before they are "released" to the general forum members? I don't think it's such a good idea, sorry.

I wish you had included your reasoning.
I've been searching the support forums for the last hour, trying to find whether Forumotion.com (phpBB3) forums allow a moderator to approve a post before the post appears on the forum. I've finished my search here.
Personally, I'm amazed that Forumotion.com forums do not allow this ability, and judging by the results of this poll so far, a large percentage of respondents agree.
If Forumotion.com forums do not allow a moderator to approve a post before the post appears on the forum, then here's the results:
Geez, if Forumotion.com forums are all about providing a multitude of options to forum administrators, then let the administrators choose whether a moderator must approve a post before it appears on the forum.

If Forumotion.com forums do not allow a moderator to approve a post before the post appears on the forum, then here's the results:
- garbage posts will always have some "air time" in the forum
- a conscientious moderator must read all of the posts anyway to find the garbage ones
Geez, if Forumotion.com forums are all about providing a multitude of options to forum administrators, then let the administrators choose whether a moderator must approve a post before it appears on the forum.

Re: Moderate each post?
I could just go use a phpbb provider that allows this option. but i love forumotion forums but this is the only bad thing about them.

Re: Moderate each post?
i assume the reason would be large number of posts
moderators will have to go through each post
its not good for forums with lots of members unless they have moderators who work 24x7

I don't like this idea. It would definitely turn me away from a forum that requires each individual post to be moderated before is seen in the thread.

I don't mean to go off-topic, but international internet laws state that to join an online community (ie. a Forum) you must be of 13 years or older.swampslayer wrote:Scamite wrote:I don't like this idea. I like the Idea very much and in Yahoo groups it is very commonly used.
I wish the admins will not ignore a request that is being supported by so many (over 300)

Good day,
That sounds very interesting; on other support forums these suggestions were also being made.
NB: I don't know if it will be accepted, even though the general idea is good.
Best regards.

Re: Moderate each post?
Well, there are many Pros and Cons to this.
Here are some Pros : The Mods can moderate abusive posts and spam.
The Mods can control posting.
Here are some Cons : Mods have to shuffle though all of the posts.
If there are no Mods available, the Admins will have no choice to do their work -- even though they [ the Admins ] have a bigger responsibility than approving and disproving posts.

Re: Moderate each post?
Good evening,
Indeed, this propossition will be useless in forums where moderators never show up to check the threads.
NB: In case they do, this option, if weel used, could be a powerful tool to control the quality of messages.
Regards.

This would completely suck for me. I've got about 400 posts every day and I'm not about to read through all of them and select which ones get posted.

Re: Moderate each post?
Actually, you can just censor words to help part of the problem by Admin Panel>General>Censoring>Word Censoring>Add new word> Fill in form
I know they could just do like @ or *, so that wouldn't help much. Voted yes!

Re: Moderate each post?
For those of you who would NOT want that function, would you care if it was an OPTION for your board... one that you wouldn't HAVE TO use but could be used by others who would like it?
I am a teacher and have a forum for one of my classes and I would LOVE this option. I'm afraid that someone will post something inappropriate and I will be "late" is catching it and deleting it...
It would be great as an OPTION for the forums. I can totally understand why some would not want it but if it's optional then you wouldn't have to have it.
PLEASE make it happen!

Re: Moderate each post?
i personally dont like this at all..
like ppl said..
it would make mods works just huge...
going through each post so that it can be published...
and it also wouldnt be possible to reply to a thread with a new post not approved yet that good...
just think what would haven if a few users reply to the same topic... but it would turn out like chaos..

Re: Moderate each post?
id like it for new posters, to check they are decent, where the admin and mods can remove it when they are satisfied. Also if you have a bad member you can use it as a sanction to make them post well to be on the site.

Re: Moderate each post?
For those of you who say it would make the mods work harder: If it's an option on the board, then you wouldn't have to have it. All I'm saying is that formotion should have the OPTION of having this ability. If you don't want it you don't have to have it... The OPTION would be great for some people.

Re: Moderate each post?
I'll step up for the people who don't want the function.
I'm someone against this option and using my common sense, why would I want the techies to work on a suggestion that will satisfy 50 people out of 100 and put off a modification that would satisfy 90 people out of 100. It doesn't matter if it's an option or not because it this development isn't one that will benefit the most people.
The same can be said about every single suggestion. Let's legalize the punting of small dogs, but make it an option and people don't HAVE to do it. The people who don't want to just aren't going to vote to legalize it just because it's an option and they aren't forced to do it.potsofclay wrote:For those of you who would NOT want that function, would you care if it was an OPTION for your board... one that you wouldn't HAVE TO use but could be used by others who would like it?

What happens if a student posts an urgent help question and you don't check your forum that night? Then your student's question doesn't get answered and by the time you allow the post, it will have already been too late.potsofclay wrote:

The punting of small dogs isn't a good example. It's not a good thing PERIOD. What I'm suggesting is something that would be a good thing to many people. I don't know of one country or place in the world where they legalized "punting of small dogs", but there are MANY message boards that have the option that I'm suggesting. (Why don't I just go to another message board then you're probably asking? Well, for the same reason why someone else already said in this thread, I like Forumotion better overall than the other ones). The fact that there is a thread on this topic and not one on punting of small dogs means something doesn't it? (kidding of course)...
I'm someone against this option and using my common sense, why would I want the techies to work on a suggestion that will satisfy 50 people out of 100 and put off a modification that would satisfy 90 people out of 100. This argument I can understand. People who want other options that would satisfy more people than what I am suggesting. Maybe the people who run this site can have a list of options and people can vote on them. Then they can work on them in order of popularity...
What happens if a student posts an urgent help question and you don't check your forum that night? Then your student's question doesn't get answered and by the time you allow the post, it will have already been too late.
I actually don't use it in that way. I have the students post reflections and reactions on readings and videos and also have it as a seminar (discussion-based) amongst themselves. It's not used as a help center. I can understand your point if I did use it in that manner though...

Re: Moderate each post?
This would only be good for things like member tutorials, were users make a tutorial post and then a mod has to approve it before being published, but definitely not for general forums, as it would look confusing. I mean, I make this post, and then 2-3 people want to reply to my post, but not knowing what others might say, so the flow of posts will seem weird. Let the admin choose which forums to moderate.
