Code in Signature not Working Empty Code in Signature not Working

Post by Rumble5152 December 29th 2008, 1:46 pm

We're running a forum www.kanclan.com and when we put the following code in the "signature" block for some members it works fine.

<! --- Code begins .............

<embed src="http://www.clocklink.com/clocks/5005-red.swf?TimeZone=GMT" width="120" height="40" wmode="transparent" type="application/x-shockwave-flash">

Code ends.>

When we put the SAME code in for other user accounts, the forum admin panel removes the code from the signature text box after clicking SAVE. Obviously, it doesn't work then.

Why does this happen for some accounts but not others?

Is there something wrong with the forum, or are we doing something wrong?

Thanks Very Happy

Hello Rumble5152,

That is HTML. Have you got that enabled? You can do this through your account. Hope that helps. Very Happy

Yes, it's enabled on the forum.

Odd the code works for some user accounts but not others. There seems to be no setting to enable/disable HTML for individual accounts (unless we missed it), so if it works for one account, it should work for everyone, true?

Have you tried enabling it in the Administration Panel? Like this:

Code in Signature not Working Allowhtml

This was found at:

1) Administration Panel
2) General Tab
3) Messages and Emails (on the left, under Forum)

Hope that helps! Very Happy

Yes, it's on. That's why we're wondering if we're missing something, or if there's a technical problem with the forum itself.

If it will help, our settings are:

Have you made a post since you turned on the signatures. Signatures will only appear in posts made after it was activated. Previous posts are not affected.

Good point .. we'll have to remember to test it, but that doesn't seem to be the problem.

After we add the code to the signature box, it disappears from the box as soon as we hit "Save". The forum admin panel erases it, so that's why it's not working. It seems it's never getting saved. scratch

I see you said you enabled HTML in the admin panel.
the users have to enable "always allow HTML" in their profiles as well.

I don't think I saw that in the previous posts, so you might want to check that.

We asked the "test" account owner (since admins can't seem to view it directly) and he says HTML is enabled in his profile. Though we haven't asked the others, we have this problem with several accounts.

Both of our forum admins are pretty experienced IT people, so it may be something we're just missing. We also think it's possible the forum account data is corrupt. We'll keep looking, and perhaps others will have suggestions.

Really appreciate the help. Thanks to all for taking the time.
