How to post large avatars on your forum?

Hi Folks,

One of my members would like to use an avatar that is an animated GIF file that is about 300kb in size. It's too large to upload directly to their profile but fits size wise for the dimensions allowed. I told him to upload it to photobucket and put the link of the image URL in his avatar upload options, but it's not working. Tried it myself and I can't get it to work either.

Any tips or suggestions?

get him to host it with servimg.com
copy and paste the required code into the correct spot in the avatar section.

But can you tell me which code gets copied into which part in the avatar section? Not sure why it wouldn't work this way with photobucket though.

insert it with a html code.

but try changeing the format from GIF to JPEG
try that first.

I usually have success when i post the "direct link" from photobucket into the "link to off-site avatar" field

oh i forgot to say, that I have found recently servimg isn't handling the animated gifs well.
i suppose it could just be me.

Thanks Darren and Psi-chotic....I am at work right now and will get back to you when I try this later from home. I've seen members here using large, animated avatars so I do know it's possible.

Hummm well usually you can post gifs, but if it's a certain size, too big or too small then it never goes throug.

Btw you can't double post brad38, its a rule, you have to wait 24 hours if there's no response.
