Search doesn't work properly
Anybody any idea why, when i use the search option, it only finds just few topics (3, 4) where the phrase is in the subject? There should be a lot more and whatever i try, nothings seems so work out!

I've noticed this too. This is a job for the pro-team to sort out so there isn't much I or any other member can suggest you do.

Did you try using the search button on the nav bar?Nick4u wrote:Anybody any idea why, when i use the search option, it only finds just few topics (3, 4) where the phrase is in the subject? There should be a lot more and whatever i try, nothings seems so work out!
You can select results in topics or post, as well as use the advanced search...
maybe you will get better results.

Yep, I too noticed this. The function doesn't work all that well. Something for the techs to sort out

That's a bad thing, especially on a forum. Seems to me they should use all skills to fix this problem as quick as possible.darren1 wrote:

As far as I know it's been an ongoing issue that really does require the intervention of Forumotion Technicians.

Re: Search doesn't work properly
If you are using phpBB2 or phpBB3, this is not a forumotion problem. The phpBB search function sucks. You're better off getting bots to index your forum and using their search function instead. For example, if your forum name is http://example.forumotion.com and you want to search for the term "chicken", you can enter the following into Google:
<span style="background:#f0f0a0; padding:3px;">chicken site:example.forumotion.com</span>
and Google will only show results from your forum. If the Google bot has indexed your forum, the search results will be MUCH better than what you get using the internal phpBB search function.

Re: Search doesn't work properly
What is wrong with the search function on my forum? It barely picks up anything, when there should be a ton of hits. My forum is Invision-based. I can copy and paste a word from anyone's post and I guarantee the search function will NOT find it!
Is this being looked at?

Hello,
your forum is forumotion right?
Our search feature does not work as good as most other free forum hosting out there. Never has, Never will.

Can you point a less experienced person in this direction? How do I get the bots to index my site? Please and thank you, even a link to a how to would be appreciated.

Easier way:
type this on google:
site:forumotion.com chicken

Re: Search doesn't work properly
Why will it never? Is there an announcement somewhere suggesting that this technical fault will not be fixed?
Search is a vital function to any forum. Especially larger forums with lots of postings. I don't see how a forum can be functional without a search feature, really .
Search works fine on privately hosted clean installs of phpbb2, phpbb3 and invision as I have used all of these forum softwares before. Perhaps it is modifications or something interfering with it on forumotion?
I really can't understand why forumotion provides extra features and addons like HTML pages, WYSIWYG posting, multi-quoting and all the other gimmicks but something as necessary and basic as Search just doesn't work??? I am not putting down forumotion for this because I like the extra features they provide. However, I think it would be best if priorities were in place and Search feature is fixed!

Re: Search doesn't work properly
I think it is funny.... when I typed in the word 'search' into the search field here it came up with something like 160 hits... when I do the same on my forum, using a term that I know is there, it finds nothing... is this forum a different platform to my own (phpBB3)?

Re: Search doesn't work properly
The search function on this support forum seems to work perfectly.
I can't understand why nobody will fix it for our forums?

They have been informed, more than 1 year ago
They have said "We've done our best to improve it, but we can't improve it any further"

On my previous invisionfree forum the search function simply did not work at all. So I'm loving this one lol
