Visitors Messages in profiles

Reading through some helpful stuff on here I discovered this and activated it.

I just have a couple of questions though to help me understand it...

Am I right that it is only viewable by the Admin, mods and member whos profile a visitors message is added to?

What is the point of this when you have general PM's available?

The visitor messages are public, though only admins and people on your friends list have the button to send a new visitor message.(maybe mods too not sure on that)

What's the point?!?! I don't know! lots of people wanted them...kinda like myspace comments.
