setting a scroller for latest topic widget
Hey there,
Basically I run a forum called DrCoolBeans.friendhood.net. People are kind of happy with it.
Problem is some people has requested the freedom of actually manually scrolling the latest topic widget at their free will, is there anyway to do this please?

Re: setting a scroller for latest topic widget
Hello,
I think there is a trick to do it.
Go to Admin CP > Modules > Forum Widget Management > Click 'Modify' button of 'Recent Topic' widget > Activate the recent topics scrolling : 'No' > Save.
Now, go to Admin CP > Display > Colors > CSS.
Add this code there and submit...
See if it works

Re: setting a scroller for latest topic widget
yo,
cheers for the help matey but it doesn seem to be doing anything =)
What I was actually hoping for was was there a sort of code that can actually build a latest topic widget with the scroller function as I mentioned =) Hopefully that actually makes things easier rather than trying to edit something that already is.

Re: setting a scroller for latest topic widget
You can build latest topics snapshots that have manual scroll bars
(daily or weekly depending on the amount/frequency of posts)
See an example widget on *this test forum
Create a div
Add your copied topics to the div and create a widget titled "Latest Topics".
Try the example code below in *this online editor to test/edit in your topics
(contains "latest topics" code copied from forum widget on the right)
If the topics are to be used on a site other than yours...
you will need to complete the Url's
(daily or weekly depending on the amount/frequency of posts)
See an example widget on *this test forum
Create a div
- Code:
<div style="height:400px;width:100%;font:12px/20px Georgia, Garamond, Serif;overflow:scroll;">
TOPICS WILL GO HERE
</div>
2 ways to get your "Latest Topics" code: [ using Firefox browser ] Highlight the Latest Topics Widget, Right click "View Selection Source" or View your page source and Ctrl+F (find) <div class="h3">Latest topics</div> Copy the latest topics (without marquee tags) |
Add your copied topics to the div and create a widget titled "Latest Topics".

Re: setting a scroller for latest topic widget
Hi Rono,
The latest topic box on the test forum is wonderful and I'll try it as soon as I come back from med school today. Question is, do you have to manually copy and past the latest topics each time or is there a code above that actually does it for you?
It will be so cool to if I could make this latest topic box work

Re: setting a scroller for latest topic widget
In RoNo's method, you have to ad topic manually but the way I showed you will add latest topics automatically.
For that you have to activate the widgets on your forum and then use the 'Latest Topics' widget.

Re: setting a scroller for latest topic widget
hey Ankillien, I have done as you said but my recent topic box does not have a scroller on it
Could you perhaps look at my forum to get what I mean? The widget just displays a list of items now. Preferably if possible, something like Rono's would be nice
Thanx

Re: setting a scroller for latest topic widget
Haha wouldn mind the manual scroll widget at all Just not the manual copy and pasting of latest topics
Thanx loads for the portal info stuff though, I should certainly look into refreshing the look of the forum more with the freedom in portal spaces.
