Solved Forum ownership transfer.

Post by bernardus May 20th 2010, 1:22 am

Assume the following scenario:
Two long standing members of a forum, both with a high post count.

Member A is the forum creator/admin and member B is a long time member and co-admin.

Member A wants to pass forum ownership to member B for personal reasons but they both want to keep their posts and forum ID's.

So they want to swap forum ownership, but not forum ID's, otherwise they would inherit each other's posts.

Can it be done?
TIA

you wont be able to. if the owner gives the forum for someone else to take over then it has to be the account the forum was created with.. like the account email, user name and pass can be changed and handed over to the new owner. but all the post etc.. will remain.

but i will check a few things to be sure. usually yo0u have the option to delete your forum if no longer want. but it dose suggest that if you like you can give the forum to someone else. but it still has to be from the main owner account the forum was created with

OK. Thanks.
I know it can't be done from the admin panel.
My question was if it is technically possible to be done by Forumotion.
My take is that you have to change a few things in the database and on the profile of both users, but it might be (or not) a very complex change.

It's a 3 year old forum with over 170.000 posts and 360 members and lots of documentation gathered over the years. It can't just be deleted to start a new one.
It is also very important that the posts and the documentation posted be attributed to the right member.
Current admin wants to step down for health reasons, but wants to keep its nearly 10.000 posts and not inherit the posts of co-admin.
If you know more, please keep me updated.
Thanks

Sorry but the only way is to switch accounts or create a new account.
