Domain Question Empty Domain Question

Post by Cool-Guy August 21st 2010, 3:40 pm

So, I got a free domain name from Forumotion. Now, let's say that I want the name "abcde.com". What will happen if a person goes to a website like WHOIS, and search for that domain? Will it say that I own it, or that Forumotion owns it? Will it say anything about me? bwi

It will probably say forumotion and link to your site.
(Because Forumotion buys it when you redeem it)

Hm... When I tried to confirm that I wanted the name "abcde.com", it said that I had to "fill in all fields", with my name, zip-code, and such. bwi

Why is this? Who will be able to see it? (And what if I use a "fake name"?) Mr. Green

On the normal whois site, it shows "Godaddy.com" as registrar...
If you then go to godaddy.com and use their whois, it comes up with the name and zip you gave when you ordered the domain.
At least now it does, as far as I remember a year ago it does not...Anybody knows why that was changed?

When you search your domain name and yo bought it from Forumotion it won't show your personal data because Forumotion doesn't share people information. If you are with Godaddy or Site5 then its a different story but you can always pay more with GoDaddy if you want your details hidden.

^I "bought" over forumotion, and my personal info shows up on the GoDaddy whois. (I guess forumotion buys over GoDaddy)
Just since it was renewed some days ago though.

Not sure if its a change in the practice from now on or just a bug.
