Change Status Icon and Title location

Thanks in advance for any and all who attempt to help me with my issue.

First off let me show you what I am trying to do. This is a screen shoot of my home page...



There are two issues I need help with. First off I want the status icon to NOT be centered vertically but insted to be moved to the top. The second thing I need help with is the catagory and forum titles. In the picture I have them where I want them, however to get them there I had to put the following code in front of their names...



This accomplishes the goal of getting the title to be tabbed over the 80 pixels that I want, but it also adds a space under the title and leads to problems in other parts of the forum...

As you can see in the two pics above the formatting gets a little screwy because of me inserting the code in front of the tilte.

What I am hoping someone here can help me with is how I can accompish my goal of having the titles on the home page tabbed over 80 pixels without messing up the way it looks in other parts of the forum. I'm guessing I need to make a change in my CSS sheet, but I've so far been unable to find where I need to make that change.

I should mention that I have a PHPBB3 forum so I can't adjust my templates.

I was able to get rid of the space under the titles by replacing the code font where I was using div, but I've still not been able to figure out how to align the status icon on top instead of middle or how to align the titles 80 pixels from the left margin.
