Emoticon/Smileys from another forum
Hi
Is it possible for me to add the Smileys/Emoticons from
http://www.fertilityfriends.co.uk/forum
on my own forum here http://sisters-4-sisters.motionsforum.com
If so, can someone advise me please how to do it.
Thanks
Florence

You need to save the smilies to a folder and upload them to your site.
ACP > Display > Avatars > Smilies
ACP > Display > Avatars > Smilies

Hi King
Thanks for answering. Could you be a little more specific please? How do I save them? Do I have to save the http code? I'm not sure how to save animated things.
I've just got a basic forum. Do I need addtional code or BB3 or any of the complicated stuff?

Just Upload the smileys from your computer to your forum through the way KingOfSports suggested.

Some might consider this stealing. And if the images are copyrighted, the owner of the images could take action against you. So be careful.
I'm a little surprised that the two staff members who replied didn't make this comment...

I am not really surprised by your comment Dion.
Generally smileys are not copyrighted. Moreover, we didn't give him advice to copy it from a website. We asked him to upload from his computer.
Also, i don't want to argue on this. Just wanted you to know.

Perhaps you didn't directly give the advice, but another staff member did.Sanket wrote:Moreover, we didn't give him advice to copy it from a website. We asked him to upload from his computer.
And you're right, smilies aren't generally copyrighted (though some are), and it's not worth arguing about. In fact, the only reason I replied was because the advice came from staff members. Seeya.KingOfSports wrote:You need to save the smilies to a folder and upload them to your site.

Ok Let me rephrase the question. If I want to save smileys which I know are not copyrighted, but which are animated how do I save them before uploading them.

Hi. Right so I have got as far as uploading the smilies but now I have to fill in fields
code (?????)
smile emotion (ok)
then choose a category (????)
upload file (ok)
I don't understand the code part or the category part. Can someone please explain both to me, pretty please?

Re: Emoticon/Smileys from another forum
Code = URL of the image Code to make the smiley show up. For example: When you type in to your post, a smiley will show up.
Category = You don't really need this, but you can separate the smilies into different categories. For example, you could have sports smilies, blue smilies, etc.

the code is characters or words between colons. Make them up-whatever you want that hasn't been used.
 :darnstaffmember: :yahoo22:
category shows up in the drop down list to the right of the post edit box. You can leave it as Smilie 1 etc or you can give the categories names. It's just a way to organize them so they are easier to find.
