If you have high activity on your forum, forumotion gives free domains.
Just keep checking in your admin panel, if it lets you book a domain name. The day it allows, it will mean you got a free domain.

As i said if you get the domain from outside, you need to do proper settings on their end. If you get it from forumotion. There is no such issue.

When you are going to get free domain, it will be there in the admin panel>Misc>Spend Credits
Domain name.
