Well, lets see.
Tutorials Need to be Checked
Not really sure how to hold a poll on this topic - it's more of a concern than a suggestion. Recent endeavors have shown me that many of the tutorials listed as an official tutorial have fatal errors. Someone needs to test/check all of them to the versions they go to.
I can list a few that I've found just today, but only if a moderator or admin asks.
If you're going to suggest something is "official" tips and tricks for Forummotion, as a company you need to ensure they work. Otherwise it looks extremely unprofessional and it's very unnerving to those of us already struggling to get the correct support.
I also believe there should be a moderation on regular members helping in advance queries as I've been given several misguided "suggestions" over my almost-year with this forum company. That's a personal pet peeve tho (granted I help out where I can but that's only if I ABSOLUTELY know the answer - and even then, I make sure the person knows I'm no expert and may be wrong).
Multiple choice poll.
Will not respond to the vote to list the wrong tutorials unless a Mod or Admin posts below and asks me to.

Re: Tutorials Need to be Checked
All tutorials and guides are working at the time of publication as far as im aware.
ALL Tutorials are tested by the staff over a period of atleast 7 days, all staff test them.
Could you please list what tuts need to be updated. I can start work on some of them when im finished with this one im currently trying to fix.
I'm trying to get the multi-theme tut code for phpbb3/ipb working again.
It was working when I passed the tut to typlo, he tested it, and posted it.
But now the script for it doesn't work?
I'm not voting in this.

Re: Tutorials Need to be Checked
I will wait for a mod before complying, for the sake of the people who created the broken codes. It could be a simple translation/copying error and not on the part of the coder, and as abrasive as I can be, I don't want to hurt any specific person's feelings without a mod's prompting for action.
All I know is, at least two codes I tried straight off the Tips and Tricks did NOT work.

Re: Tutorials Need to be Checked
Was any of them mine, or say "Guest"
I suppose the reason for this is that forumotion is updating it's coding, and now all forums have an out dated JQuery version, which is really.....silly?
If it says "guest" then it was possible Kilsek, which means it's severely out-dated.

Re: Tutorials Need to be Checked
I didn't see who created them - like I said, not going for specific people here. One code was a completely wrong CSS listing that did nothing for the forum. I'd have to surf/attempt the others again before I remember exactly which ones had errors and what they were.
And some were just... incomplete. Missing some vital information - things I knew, but couldn't find a place to tell the thread's creator what to add.

Re: Tutorials Need to be Checked
If you're not going to post the outdated tutorials then your thread is useless to your cause. Some tricks are outdated because Forumotion has updated with official ways to do things. Could you please list the broken tutorials and what is wrong with them?

Re: Tutorials Need to be Checked
As posted above, I will post them when the correct people ask. Kindly read everything first
I'm just waiting for a mod to show interest so I know it's being heard, and not just me blasting specific tutorials.
Graphic designers don't have mod powers, correct? (I only ask because I don't want to over look you needlessly, but I am only interested in getting the attention of the people that can actually change them.)

Um, yes we do...Honor wrote:As posted above, I will post them when the correct people ask. Kindly read everything firstI'm just waiting for a mod to show interest so I know it's being heard, and not just me blasting specific tutorials.

I can demonstrate if you want.

On a serious note though this thread is getting ridiculous. If you don't start complying then this thread will be locked because obviously it serves no purpose as it is. You would've been better off PMing a staff member in the first place instead of creating a whole thread that isn't really a suggestion.

Re: Tutorials Need to be Checked
Well there's things everywhere that say don't use the pm system, so I didn't. I as an admin of several forums over my time understand the reason behind that, and I respect it.
This thread was just a call for the admins to start checking things (mainly because I did figure it had to be an update somewhere, or some change in coding, or possibly, as stated before, an error in simple translation or copy/pasting). I had no intentions of going through my list myself because, well, that's kind of what I figured the staff of the forum were supposed to do, keep things updated.
I'll start with a simple one. Read this thread.
https://help.forumotion.com/script-code-problems-f43/translucent-table-rows-t81014.htm#522338
Granted I tweaked the code to begin with, but the CSS coding for it had completely wrong tags. Further more the tut thread had no indication which forums it would work for, nor did it have alternate options for different versions.
I guess I'll start looking/listing. I don't really have time for this tonight.... and I know the staff probably doesn't either. But it's gotta be done.
Oh, an addition - the Flash Banner tutorial needs to state somewhere that the allowScript JS code MUST be in the embed code for it to work. I had this problem and it took me almost a week to figure out, and I had to figure it out off site.

That looks right to me at first glance...Honor wrote:

I guess it depends on what version you were using. I mean it could be updated with the codes for all four, I'd just have to go through each version and find the classes.

Re: Tutorials Need to be Checked
I know. That's why I was hoping the staff would get inspired to spend a little time and go through everything - and at the very least mark them with correct versions, so time isn't wasted figuring out "hey, this doesn't actually work for me".
I've been trying for two weeks to get a skin made for my PHPBB3 forum, but between erroneous tuts (granted not a lot of them, just seems to be the ones I needed
) and unable to get any useful responses in the threads, it's been beyond aggravating. Before we moved here to Forummotion I could do an InvisionFree skin in about 48 hours straight. It's getting kinda disheartening. And I'm self taught in everything but design itself (I'm a graphic design student, but we don't do coding).
The only other one I could find tonight was incomplete information on the PHPBB3 code list (and I'd really like to find the place to ask for additional codes for that thread) :
This code only works for the homepage - I still get a search box within the categories (granted, it's in a different place, so has a different code?)
CSS to hide the Last visit was Thursday, July 16, 2009 - 13:56, new messages, posts, messages that did not answer, Mark all forums read:
I can't tell by the description above if I am completely mistaken or not, but to use one or two of these codes completely blanks out the last collum in the table. Either that code needs to be removed, or the description made a little clearer perhaps? That could just be newbie me.
I know that when knowledgeable people see some of these, they don't catch them right away. Their brain automatically tells them what they need to know to make it work. But for people like me, that doesn't happen. It's not anyone fault. But it would help to have it fixed.
I don't have any more for the night. I've tried to remember all I played with, but I can't.
EDIT:
Found another small problem that may need to be looked into. At least one tutorial has a link that is broken.
https://help.forumotion.com/tricks-tips-f32/how-to-make-a-floating-menu-t55169.htm
The forum listed for the example (which, in my case, I really needed one to know what I was doing as there are no pics to help), leads to a forum that no longer exists.
PSS - In saying all of this, I'm not opposed to lending my share of help in getting things checked out / fixed. Like I said, I've been there on the admin side of large forums of needy people. I say I don't have a lot of time, and I don't, but if the Admin want help in pinpointing problem areas so they don't have to methodically search each and every link they've provided, I'm up to the task.

Re: Tutorials Need to be Checked
Why was this created? Why not just PM a staff member instead?
Would of been a lot better and could of address this without a problem by the looks of things right now.
If you give me a list of out dated tutorials in PM and I will happy see what I can do even if that means removing them for the time being and having a good coder redo it. With having Darren1 and Justin saying Forumotion has update their software which will make these tutorial not work as sometimes it has to happen if they try to make an update.
That being said I will now lock this topic.
