Solved A script i put in a html page has proven fatal

Post by Drinky January 18th 2011, 7:31 am

Hi there, recently i have added a script to my forum "www.unforgivscape.darkbb.info" but the problem i have is that when i go to "www.unforgivscape.darkbb.info" the redirect page doesent redirect me to my main forums page in fact it does nothing at all other than stays on the redirect page,so far i know very little about how to solve such a messy issue like the one i am experiencing at the moment,i definatley know it is the script i have added because the first time i released the script on to my forum it had a major bug in it on release so i had to take it away and it had to be looked at some more, the issue it was causing was that everytime i went to my forum the redirect page would redirect me to my forum but then once i got to my main page about 5 seconds later me and my members were getting redirected to www.runelocus.com (a runescape private server archive) and the way i fixed it last time was that i had to scroll down really fast and click my administrator panel quick and take out the script on the html page but this time i cant even get to my admin panel to take the script out thats causing this annoying issue, also my main redirect page that introduces my forum doesent even take me to my main forum page so i really do not know what to do in order to gain access to my forums data!,i would be most greatfull if someone could reply to this and help me resolve this annoying problem thanks for reading...

P.S the script is a voteing page for the private server my friend runs but the page is on the runelocus website so its already on the forum instead of going to the search bar and typing in "www.runelocus.com" my members loved the script because it came in handy to vote for the server on the forums instead of going to runelocus to do it. (voteing gets more players hense fourth why i added the script) Confused

You can use Firefox with the NoScript addon. Disable JavaScript and you are done. With Opera you should be able to do the same. You can enable JavaScript in Firefox but the plugin will disable it. Then the plugin allows you to selectively enable JS on the sites that you trust or where you need it.

The simple way is just to disable JavaScript. Smile

If I understood you right, you want to delete the script from your html page in the forum administration? This must work if you disable JS. It is not dependent on your FireFox version, cause it's in there for a long time. I think other browser like modern IE's have this feature too. If you disable JS, no script on yourforum.forumotion.com or the page of your friend will run any more.

Redirections in general can be done by the web server or by the header of a html page. Maybe you should speak with your friend about this. Maybe he can set up a separate page for you, that redirects to your forum.

Why don't you try to call a different page of your forum, e.g. the login page. Just call a page that is not this html page.

And a good advice for the future: Use a browser that can store user/password combinations! FireFox does this for you and if you forget a password you can look it up. If you change your OS one day, take a screenshot of the passwords and you are done. Of cause you can secure your passwords with a password.

good luck!

so i should just send typlo a message asking him to send me a temporary password for the utilitys interface in order to get my forum back? and then will he get back in touch with me,because it seems like he is a busy person,i mean with this forum on his hands and everyone who needs help it looks like a busy situation and i respect that he most probably is busy to take controll of my problem at the moment but it is most definatley something i will do,should i include the url to this topic so he can click it so its easyer for him? iv never been in this situation before so i dont really know what to tell him lol :/

Biker,i tried this also, but still i got nothing i went to google and typed in my forums name and once results came up i could see things like some categorys from my forum,so i obviously clicked it and as soon as i clicked it, it took me straight to the redirect page, all i can say is that this script is like an infection slowly killing my forum, allmost like a trojan or a virus stopping me from getting in to it,but i know its nothing as serious as that, but i can refer to it as a trojan because its acting like one,one of the main reasons is because the redirect page is just stuck there :s!

If the script is hosted on one of your html pages, homepage message or similar try looging on to the admin panel by adding a /admin after your url. domain-name.forumotion/admin

Thanks,
