Smiley's still missing

I've noted that the missing uploaded smiley problem was due to a recent update... the topics seem to all be locked now, however, and some were saying it had been resolved. Most of the smilies I've added are still missing with only three or four scattered randomly throughout the list are showing, however, these ones never disappeared. All the smilies are still showing in the admin panel smilies lists but they are showing as red crosses on the forum. Was there a solution to this that has been published that I haven't seen to help those who resolved the problem return to normal? I have not exceeded the 150 smilies limit so this shouldn't be the problem. Nothing ever happened to my avatars.

EDIT: I should also note that if I copy the url of the smiley showing in the admin panel, display, smilies lists and put that between [ i m g ] tags then it shows as a red cross on the forum as well, despite being visible in the admin panel.

I clear my cache thoroughly all the time... others on the forum are also reporting it.
