Classifying Topics Empty Classifying Topics

Post by RichardFr April 20th 2011, 6:08 pm

I even had trouble searching for topics about this question because of how the words "category" and "tag" are used here. What I want to accomplish is classify topics the ways users of Wikipedia or YouTube might do so. Then they could browse structured lists of topics (or even posts) about their area of interest. So, how can I "categorize" or "tag" topics?

There is no feature like that here.

The only thing that might work and getting a widget called Keywords. Modules // Widget Management // Yes // Save

Then find Keywords click and drag where you want it // Save

Thanks. I got something to show up, but the widget shows only three "keywords," and only one of those is a "metatag."

  • Where do these keywords come from?
  • Can I directly add my own keywords?

When you create posts & topics, they are automatically picked up. I am afraid you can't add your keywords.

Then, I really don't understand what, "When you create posts & topics, they are automatically picked up." means.

The forum http://nextsteps.forumotion.com/portal stats widget says, "Our users have posted a total of 180 messages in 45 subjects." The widget shows 3 keywords.

What does it take for a keyword link to be displayed in the widget?

As i said its automatically picked up. What i have known or understood from using the keyword widget is the words are picked up when they are used quite a few times in your posts. I had video threads posted on my forum, so the word video got added to that list. So get my point ??

Yes, I get your point. What I'm telling you is the keywords displayed don't reflect the frequencies of the words included in the topics and posts. Do you get my point?

So the question becomes, how accurate is that widget and does anyone here report issues with its performance?

p.s. Just as a point of reference, what I'm really looking for is some indication from Forumotion about whether anyone is interested in a conversation about enhancing the features of the Keywords widget to move toward something along the lines of the MediaWiki DynamicPageList.
http://www.mediawiki.org/wiki/Extension:DynamicPageList_(Wikimedia)

If not, then I'll just restrict my questions here the more simplistic versions of "How do I do this or that?"

p.p.s If you want to take "video" off your Keywords display, you can "Censor" it from the Keywords - General Options page.

well i dont know? it seems like it has all been explained to me,
Keep in mind forumotion is free forum hosting and cant provide everything. Some features and options are basically what they are, and you just use them to the best of their abilities.

I code it exactly how you meant it.

Do i appreciate your rudeness? I am sure you know, its no code to solve then.

Thread is being Locked, since i don't see a point in this thread being open.
