How to Hide Sub-Categories

I want the sub-categories to be hidden on the main page. To me it just looks awful
Sadly, I can't figure out how.
Is it possible to hide them?

Here's a screen shot taken from the main page.
Of course I'd like the sub-category to be shown when I click the main category, but I'd rather it be hidden on the main page.

Try Display >> Structure and hierarchy >> Split categories on index : Medium
