should we have a new account IP system?
Multiple Memberships IP Warning system.
First topic message reminder :
Most sites have a ip scanner system on them that will flag up the members that have the same ip address and tell the admin's the ip and the names of the users.
Right now the only way to see the ip and the ones that have more then one account is when the member makes a post then you can click on the ip button.
Only then it will show you a list of ip's and names of the account used With that same ip Address
How this system would work:
The system would be in the ACP in the Security page or Users & Groups >> Under Handle users
The system will be like this And the member would not need to post at all before you see this info.
it would only work if the ip is the same thou.
example:
WARNING: This user has more then one account With the ip address.
You the Admin would then pick yes or no to the user's account's
I know some admin's make a test account on there forums so this system would help by saying yes to there own accounts.
Please give me your votes and comments, If you Vote NO please say why i will not be Affended in anyway
Thank you.

WARNING: This user has more then one account With the ip address.
User Name | IP Address | Date | ISP Host Name | Allow/Disallow Options |
Dave | 189/35/9* | 12/03/10 | ISP WOULD GO HERE | Allow/Disallow user? |
Lee | 189/35/9* | 23/05/11 | ISP WOULD GO HERE | Allow/Disallow user? |
Ellie | 189/35/9* | 25/05/11 | ISP WOULD GO HERE | Allow/Disallow user? |
- If you click yes then it would then Not flag up again unless they made one or more account's again,
- If you pick NO then An Email would be sent out saying that the Security system has found there ip to be the same as one other member and has banned the new account or some thing like that or a Admin could Email them telling them why there account was locked out.
I know some admin's make a test account on there forums so this system would help by saying yes to there own accounts.

A definite yes from me.
It would also help to block out people close to a ban with a back up ready for use.

Re: Multiple Memberships IP Warning system.
This definitely seems like a great idea and I'm sure many people would benefit from this. On the forum I'm an admin for, we've had a few users try to do that already, such as if their account was banned/abusing the reputation system/spamming, and it's hard trying to keep track of them. This would be unbelievably helpful.

Yes, it's better then having to find out what the ip then banning it (probably banning the wrong ip).

Re: Multiple Memberships IP Warning system.
Many people share the same PC in the same home so would have the same IP number and yet be different users so I voted ...No.
lots of IP's continually change users numbers by proxy frequently, as a security feature, so many members that post in forums have a lot of different IP numbers associated with their posts as well

I agree with you 100% but having this option would really come in handy. It's a good way to easily check people's IP addresses. And lets say someone was sharing a PC, you could easily tell by looking at their posts on the forums that it is two different people. And if their was someone making multiple accounts, it would be obvious. Then you could check their IP address just to be sure, to easily get rid of spammers and such.
That's why I vote YES

Sharing a computer is a silly thing to do, this is against the rules on my forum as account sharing.
And anyway, I'm sure that situation is easily figured out.
Re: Multiple Memberships IP Warning system.
Thank you all for your Votes
This is why you have the settings to say yes or no to the member you could add a part in your Registration Information that says something like
Do you have 1 or more person using the same computer to Access this forum ?
They just a tick box to say yes or no
If this is ticked then it would still pop up in the ACP but it would show up as green to say they have ticked the boxand each other member would also show up green to that computers ip
You could also turn this off in the ACP so you don't have to use it

There is nothing silly about you haveing more then one user on your computer but to stop you getting banned you could tell the admin that you and your brother use the same laptop computer to log in to this forum and then the admin can ok your accounts one by oneSuuki wrote:jroriginal wrote:musket wrote:Many people share the same PC in the same home so would have the same IP number and yet be different users so I voted ...No.
