POSTS IN TOPIC JUST VANISHED?!

I posted in a topic on my forum Common.
It said the post had been successfully sent like usual.
But when I went back to the topics list, there were two of the same topic!
With different post counts, so it basically cut in half.
Anyway, I knew I could merge the topics back together.
I did exactly that and now I am left with almost all the posts gone in the topic, there are only 100 something posts in the topic now when there was around 1000 before the error occurred.

I'd really appreciate some kind of way to get the posts back!
This has happened before in the same topic by the way.

Hi, it sounds like you hit a limit. I believe the limit is something like 990 messages in a topic and then it gets split. Does this sound likely?

Oh yes, I thought that could be one option of the problem.
Is there a way to change the post limit for topics?

No, it could be that there is a different number of posts per page as well. I think 990 is the default but the topic splits around page 66 or 67. I am not 100% sure of this.

So if you have a lot of posts per page then you could go over 990 posts and then the topic would split.

I have successfully changed the amount of posts per page to the maximum of 50 and it seems to be showing success.
