Do you think forumotion needs a re-design ?
New Design
I think it's time help forumotion get a re-design since you can almost do anything with forumotion forums i think it would be a great idea! as the site need updateing ect
Re: New Design
I'd say hell no to a new design.
If it's simple, keep it. If it's clean, Keep it. If it's white (Thus easy on the eye), keep it.
It follows the KISS (Keep it simple stupid) rule...
Were known on this image, if we changed it, overnight, then people would think that were no longer ForuMotion, on top of that, the last change was only a few years back

This design is old, all the support forums have this design, don't you think is time to change it? I think so i vote yes...Maybe something in version phpbb2 and forumotion will have more option (EDITING, COMPLEXITY OF DESIGN,ETC)

Re: New Design
Don't forget, we're only a support forum. We're not a discussion forum so having a good design isn't really necessary. What we need is a simple and user friendly theme so that new users can find their way around and ask for help.
My vote stands as no.

I'll start by saying I'll be voting NO
Now, I'll go explain why, and our friend here BlackMind is going to help me

=> Irrellevant. Some sites, like say Easyjet (for example), have the same design since their internet site was online. It allows users to recognise the trademarkBlaCkMinD wrote:This design is old
=> Yes, a trademark is the same is all countries, that's the principle. It'd be an issue and wierd if all the official support forums didn't have the same structure and organisation. (Ok, details may change, but the general picture doesn't)all the support forums have this design
=> "If it ain't broken, don't change it"don't you think is time to change it?
=> phpBB2 is the simplest design ForuMotion has to present (right now we're on phpBB3). Going backwards wouldn't show a good image of progress and inovation FM strives to stand for. If you're implying a possibility to use Template Editing, I'd also say that's a bad idea. Template Editing requires knowledge of internet coding. I'll agree it isn't the hardest thing on earth, but again, FM strives for an easy-to-use interface, with newcomers able to compete with users who're more used to the internet.Maybe something in version phpbb2 and forumotion will have more option (EDITING, COMPLEXITY OF DESIGN,ETC)

Re: New Design
I'm going with a simple no. The design has been the same ever since I came on to forumotion.
So with that, keep it, don't get rid of it.

Re: New Design
- Spoiler:
It'd still be Forumotion. It doesn't hurt to make a website look like it wasn't made four years ago. You don't have to keep it the way it is because you're afraid of losing the image, any good design could keep it.Darren1 wrote:I'd say hell no to a new design.

You say you're only a support forum, but this site is meant for the ease of use for the Forumotion community and also serves as an example of it's customization power.Base wrote:Don't forget, we're only a support forum. My vote stands as no.
1.) A design can hold up, but not forever. A site can keep it's image without sticking to the same theme forever and ever; http://www.bungie.net/ is an example of this.Caihlem wrote:I'll start by saying I'll be voting NO

2.) That doesn't mean that a new theme can be applied to all forums.
3.) Records weren't broken, floppy discs weren't broken. They found something better to replace them.
4.) The support forums should switch to punBB. It can easily surpass phpBB3 and Invision with the abilities given to it by templates. And Caihlem, template editing requires knowledge of HTML. Honestly if you don't know basic HTML you have no business running a forum in the first place. Also, just because the support forum's code is complicated, doesn't mean it has to be hard for the user to use. A slide out menu can require tons of JavaScript, but once built it can be an invaluable tool for users.
Now after saying all that I'll voice my opinion about changing the theme. People want to change for the wrong reasons and people want to keep it for the wrong reasons.
Yes the theme is nice, and we're used to it, but that in no way means it shouldn't be improved. Where would society be today if no one dared to improve anything?
And for those who want to change, "it's old" is not a valid reason to change. "It could be streamlined and enhanced for user interface simplification" is.
The theme is a little old, but it's still got one or two years in it. This place was a lot different when I got here, but it's still the same place. Eventually this theme will be considered "ugly" if not updated, because the rest of the Internet will keep moving forward while people here are trying to hold this site back. Forumotion will eventually break down and pay someone for a new theme, but don't expect it to be anytime soon.

Re: New Design
Why change the theme when there is simply nothing wrong with it, yes it's white but this has been the style of the support forum for quiet a few years. Why change something if it isn't broken? To change it will only make users a little bit iffy. The forum theme is simple and nice, and it's not old, I've been on the forum for two years, whereas you have been on this forum for only a couple of months...so what if it's a few years old, I don't think it matters, there are bigger changes then changing the style of this forum. So the question is...why change something that isn't in dire need to be changed?
