Solved What is a BOT and can I stop it ?

Post by red queen July 13th 2011, 5:42 pm

There are only two of us who do the Admin for our small social forum and neither of us are technical. It would appear today that we had a visit from a guest and a BOT. After searching on the internet I assume this is some mechanism for collecting email addresses in order to send out spam messages.

Is there any way I can block access to both the BOT and uninvited guests.

Thanks in advance.

Hi, I can assure you that bots are completely harmless. In fact, they can be considered as a good thing. Here's an explanation about bots: https://help.forumotion.com/t55170-bots-who-and-what-they-are

As for blocking access, bots and guests have the same permissions. So as long as you have the correct permissions set up for your guests then the same should apply for the bots. Wink
