Post by carpalace August 18th 2011, 9:37 am

Hi all,

I would like to restrict my members to open new thread at some of the forum.

Example: if they clock a minimum of 50 post count, then they are allowed to open a new thread but they are able to view the forum.

I'm only able to find out from the admin panel the setting for min post before members can used private messages but however i'm not able to find one for opening of new thread.

Anyone here can help me.

Thank you.

I believe it is possible.

Admin Panel>Users and Groups>Group Administration>Create new group>Group auto-subscribe: Yes>Minimum Posts: 50 (or whatever number you want)>Fill in other fields and save.

Admin Panel>General>Categories and Forums>Perms>Create a new thread>The group you made earlier.

I hope that helps.

Thank you for your help.

Example if i set it to 50 post, if i have different tier which mean i have to set up a different group with different number of posting for it to work?

That is correct, but it will only for a section not a topic.

And yes, as Mario said, you will have to create a new group and have to do the same thing all over again.

Actually, what's incorrect is that you can restrict a certain group from posting a topic, but still be able to reply (my interpretation, if I misinterpreted it, than I apologize) . You can restrict a certain group from posting a topic (for each forum) After clicking the Perms icon, click the link "Advanced Mode" for a more complex and in-depth permissions settings.

The link is where my cursor is:

Minimum post count to open new thread Screen13

After that, you can restrict what groups are able to post a topic on the forum. You can then simply copy these permissions with 'copy forum permissions' drop down box for other forums after you have set the permissions for one of your forums.

Here's the advanced mode screen and where the "Create a topic" permission is:

Minimum post count to open new thread Screen14

Hope that helps! Very Happy
