Goto Admin Panel > Display > Homepage > Headers & Navigation, press 'Add a customized menu' button and fill it up like this.
Menu: Personal Message
Picture: Leave it blank
Text: Personal Message
Redirection URL: /privmsg?folder=inbox
Rights: Tick all except Guests

Then press the 'Save' button, and don't forget to put it up near 'You have no new messages'.

After that press Edit on the 'You have no new messages' line. Untick all except Administrators (or maybe you can untick Administrators aswell) and press the 'Save' button and you're done.

NOTE: It may not work properly as 'You have no new messages'.

Change the 'Inbox' word in the script to 'Personal message'.

dion wrote:Go to ACP>Display>Headers&Navigation and make sure the "Display only images in the navbar" option is set to NO. Once that option is set, the following javascript will change the "You have no new messages" text in the navbar to "Inbox":

Code:
$(function() {
document.getElementById('i_icon_mini_message').nextSibling.nodeValue='Inbox';
});
