if you was able to log in to utilities then it should be working.
I would do it again, or check your spam folders like mentioned above.
Then if not just do what Mario has said and send us the info.

I have sent Mr Mario a PM about a similar thing. My forum is active but although I can access the utils there are no back up events saved. I only set the forum up over the past few days but dont want to lose my work if I mess up.

if it's only a few days i guess there is nothing to back up yet?
What are you worried about messing up, if you delete a forum or something on the board then you just have to create new ones, if you utilities is saying there is nothing to back up, then you cant back nothing up yet.

Also i think you should have started a separate thread on this. because this is not the same problem as the thread authors

I have started a separate thread but this one seemed a similar scenario.

Does the backup not save the forum every 24hours?

It should do automatic back ups,
But if there is no fresh data to back up, then there is nothing to back up yet.
Unless your not in your forum utlities???? something is not adding up right scratch

what is it telling you in your utilities.
give me a screen shot of where it yours trying to back it up, and what messages comes up when you try it.

I log into the utility here https://www.forumotion.com/en/utils/ by entering my email and password then click the "click here to authenticate" and it lets me in to another area where I can edit the creators details and restore the forum as it was previously.

The two drop down menus on the restore section are BACKUP TYPE and RESTORE THE FORUM SUCH AS IT WAS.

If I click the BACK UP TYPE I get 3 options ( Messages and users/theme only/Full Backup) But no tabs drop down on the RESTORE THE FORUM SUCH AS IT WAS I just see TO SELECT and if I click the Submit query nothing happens.

Forum Restore Problem Empty Re: Forum Restore Problem

Post by kirk November 17th 2011, 5:42 pm

I got your pm,
We dont do support through PM so you are better off just posting the link to the thread instead of explaining everything in there.

Anyway i was looking at this last night as well.
I do not understand what it is you are trying to back up.
You only have two forums with around, 40 some post.

So what is it you are trying to get back. did you change themes or something? If so try going here.

Admin panel>Display>themes management>Restore the skin

then pick a a date, but it seems you cant do a full backup because you do not have anything to back up to, At this point, if you was able to do a full back up, all it would it would do is give you what the forum came with, one forum and a basket forum,And as you see i do not think it's possible to do this?, So you have to explain exactly what it is you are trying to get back, because i do not see how Mario would be able to back up something that is not yet even in your options to do?

Plus you said you are new at this, so i do not know what you are trying to do but i dont think your forum will need a full back up to do it.. a full backup is supposed to be for emergency purposes only after you have an established forum.

So explain what you can and if there is nothing us staff can help with, then i can pass it on to Mario or the godfather to have them try to help.explain or do what you are asking.

Thanks for getting back to me.

I was just looking through the https://www.forumotion.com/en/utils/
Where I should be able to access the backups that are automatically saved every 24hrs but they are not there in the tab.

AFAIK they should be saved there each day but I cant find them.

I don't need to restore now but would like to know that I can. If a disaster happens I would need these backups but they are not there.

Do I need to set anything up?

Post by kirk November 17th 2011, 6:16 pm

No there is nothing to set up, give it some time and you will see the options come up. If something major was to happen then and only then should you try to do a back up, And even then it only provides you to back up up to a certain point.

The only time forumotion would back up your forum for you is. If there was some sort of major bug or technical issue on forumotions end . Or if the forum was hacked some how. But 90% of any forums that are ever hacked is due to irresponsible staff/founders or admins sharing passwords or allowing the wrong persons to be staff.

But in the rare case of a forum being hacked then forumotion would always be able to restore it for you. I have had forumotions forums since the beginning, and i have never had to restore anything accept themes time to time.

However, I suggest that you never delete anything unless absolutely necessary, if you have a post that needs to be deleted, just move it to a trash board that only admin have access to, this way you can keep it for your records or if you needed to get it back.

The same thing with forums or categories, be sure to move all content to another forum before you delete anything, because forumotion is not in the business of backing people forums up every time they may delete a few forums or post then want them back. Forumotion will only back a forum up for a legitimate emergency purpose only,

So just keep that in mine if you are going to delete any forums, post or members, But as time goes by you will still have the options to restore things your self if needed, but it is limited by how far back it goes..

i think it only goes back either one month or may be two. i cant remember i will have to look in one of my utilities and see how far it goes back for me.

Actually thats probably why you do not yet see the option to do a full back up.It will most likely not show for at least a month or what ever the time frame is that it will back up to.
I am not 100% certain if thats how it works but kind of makes sense being you do not yet have the option.

Well i would have to find out the official answer.
But my guess is that it backs up to forumotions data base first, then is most likely added to your utilities panel monthly, So i will have to ask Mario or the godfather to shed some light on exactly how that works.

Hello,

Your forum http://www.big-codes.forumotion.com/? I don't see it exist anymore. This would be the case to why you can't restore it.

I've asked you to provide this to one of the support mods. (Not Me)
