A RPG Game Rules Empty A RPG Game Rules

Post by Kelthazar June 6th 2009, 5:35 am

Well I noticed some people where having a hard time with the RPG element, so I wrote a game that is simple, but can get very advanced should it work out and you decide to add more.

I would like some feedback on what you think about it.
I wanted it to be editable, and unique for each person. So feel free to add any additional rules and features.

I suggest coping and pasting this into a word document of some sort.

Required dice:
05 sided (health, )
10 sided (attack,)
20 sided (to hit, ability,)

Char sheet:
Name
Strength
Dexterity
Intelligence
Endurance

Strength:
When a player attacks they get one die for each 5th point in strength. To attack the attacker must first state that they are attacking, then roll a to hit die, and the required amount of attack dice. If the to hit die is successful then all of the attack dies are added together and the resulting number is how much damage is done. (the player only gets to roll one to hit die). The chances of success depend on the defenders dexterity, in order to be a successful hit then the to hit die must be equal to or greater than the opponents dexterity.

Dexterity:
This affects how hard your char is to hit. In order to get hit then the attacker must roll their to hit die to greater or equal to the defender's dex.

Intelligence:
This stat determines how likely a player is to successfully execute an ability(if the forum host includes them). They get one ability die for each 5thpoint in intelligence(it may also affect spells should the forum host include them).

Endurance:
This determines how much health a player has. Health is set at 10+ dice roll (one die for each 5th point in endurance). A player’s health is re-determined each time they enter a topic.

Setting:
Dungeon Master (topic creator) must choose a setting, whether it be fantasy, futuristic, or other.
The DM must then plan out the area to be traveled, cave, evil guy's palace, etc..., and must plan out most of the rooms or areas in said place. The DM must decide what kind of monsters are going to be in said area.

The DM will tell the player the following:
Setting
Area
And type of enemies.

Gameplay:
Once the DM gets enough players then he will start the adventure in the first room or entryway. The DM will then decide if there is a monster in the room(either by dice or by his choosing), if there is one then the DM will tell the players the name and stats of the monster(either from a preset list, or straight from the imagination). The players will then take their turns against the monster by either attack or abilities (if activated). The monster will then take it's turn to attack or use abilities in the same manner as the players.
If there are any other monsters in the room (the Dm only has to mention one of the 3 max monsters when the players enter a room) then they will take their turns in the order of the DM's choosing.

Once the players defeat the monster(s) then they will search the rooms for items(if the forum host has allowed items). The DM will decide if/what items they find.

Once the players have received their items and divided them amongst them selves they may use any doors in the room (if the DM has placed any in the room they are in), or leave the dungeon.

The Final Room:
The dungeon ends when the players make it to the end of the DM's area and Defeat the boss. The Boss will always have items for the players (if items are allowed by the forum host). The players may then leave the dungeon or explore any rooms they may have missed.

Once they leave the Dungeon every player that is still alive will gain a level.

Level Up:
A player gains one level per dungeon they have completed. When they level up they will gain one stat point to place in a stat of their choosing. If a player obtains a multiple of 5 then they will receive plus one die for any action governed by that stat.

A player may not increase dexterity past 20 on a level up, doing so will have no effect on dodging.

Death:
When A player reaches 0 health then they are dead. Depending on individual rules the player may have to create a new char, or may be alive once they exit the dungeon but have a penalty to their char, or they may be alive once they exit with no penalties.
If spells have been activated then another player may resurrect your char. If a player is resurrected and then proceeds to complete the dungeon then you will gain all the benefits.

As you can see it requires a bit of imagination, but it provides a solid foundation.

Ok well I could follow this tutorial exactly, but one thing I don't get is where is the playing platform?...I mean where does the game take place for people to play, it's completely confusing.

Although I'm not going to go fully ahead and make a forum dedicated to role-playing, I'll congratulate you. Very Happy
