Can i get a counter on my Forum to record numbers visting over a length of time

Yeah, if you have the code put it in one of your forum widgets or your homepage message and it should work.

Here's where I got mine at:

Just fill out the fields and they'll give you a code. They have different options for backround color, border color, and number of flags to display so it's best if you do it. It should only take a minute or two.

There are a few in which you can use, I know it is solved but I thought he might want a choice. I personally used http://www.hit-counts.com/ when I needed one.
