MOD: Forum Auth by Post Count
MOD: Forum Auth by Post Count
This MOD allows board owners to set minimum (maximum) post counts required (allowed) to view or post in a forum. Until the user has obtained the minimum posts required to view a forum, the forum is invisible. If the user exceeds the maximum allowed then the forum is also hidden. There are similar controls for posting, allowing the board administrator the option of setting a minimum post count required to post in a specific forum. The minimum post requirement could be used to prevent users from viewing any special forums until they have participated at some level in the other forums on the board.
The maximum post allowance can be used to hide "beginner" forums from more experienced forum members. For example, you might want to have a forum with lots of "welcome" and rules posts that eventually gets hidden as a board member gains more experience with the board.

Re: MOD: Forum Auth by Post Count
Actually I think there was an easier way of doing that. Like ranks, you assign a group to a postcount, and when members reach the required ammount of posts, the MOD automatically adds them to that group.
I vote yes.

Re: MOD: Forum Auth by Post Count
I agree with u completely....
It will help in making the forum more active as well.... I mean the members will start posting in order to get access the special sub-forum......

Re: MOD: Forum Auth by Post Count
I Like that idea. Though, I think it would be nice to have a post count MINIMUM for HTML pages too. I say drop the Maximum, cause I like my members to post as much as possible, not to have to worry about a max post count...
Re: MOD: Forum Auth by Post Count
Ya maximum will not be very much useful.... but minimum will help in making the forum active a lot.... we can make forums like V.I.P. or something like that which will encourage new users to post more and more to reach the minimum post count needed for the special forums.... I saw this in many forums and those forums r active as hell due just these feature....
Re: MOD: Forum Auth by Post Count
I looked all over but i never managed to find another Suggestion for this, so its good to go.
I think this is a great idea and would be very useful for Admins. This can stop leechers and also help with various options, like for a VIP Group (if you made one) this would be very good. Your explanation of this mod and how it works was great.
I Voted Yes

Re: MOD: Forum Auth by Post Count
^^^ Thanks..... I saw that many topics r locked in this forum just due to poor explanation.... so I didn't want to get my topic locked....
Anyways, I just talked with the owner of a forum having 9000+ members about this MOD.... he said everything about it is great but there is one limitation that it doesn't work in phpbb3.... so u'll have to have phpbb2 forum to use this feature....

Re: MOD: Forum Auth by Post Count
Hi, I too have seen this on a few other forums myself and personally I don't like it. And probably won't go back to those boards. I think I feel it's more of a non motivational feature to have to meet requirements to simply post somewhere, then it is motivational. Understand? Just my opinion, so sorry I voted no.

No accually , I don't i think people are very busy as it is in life to have to set requirements to there membership unstables the free flow of things for members isolates that 1 poor member who doesnt have 2 much time to get on and post and can't veiw or enjoy all the benifits the complete forum has to offer, ya know? make's it seem a lil more non motivational to me and may in fact , brush members like that away. Don't you think so too?

I saw many people in other forum.... who just come around and explore the forum the forum and logg out and I hate that the most.... its not motivational for Admins and moderators of the forums at all.... they give so much time to there forum and they don't get a single reply in the topic.... will all this motivate admin/moderator/member to gather information from all over the internet and share with people in the forum??? I don't think so.... it happens with me everyday.... I got forum on another site and just created a new forum at forumotion.... and I would like to have 100 ACTIVE members instead of 1000 INACTIVE members in my new forum....
What do u say???

I agree I hate when members just regisiter and never accually come on, or yes, the forum lurkers who come on everyday and say nothing. What's up with that? I just wanna kick them..lol
What kind of forum do you have? I have a general discusiion forum , so for me to require some one say min 15 post just jump into the general disscuion forum, or making it min 25 posts to post in my gossip gossip gossip section to me seems more of like a pain in the bum, people who log in want to contribute but setting it up this way seems to restict what my forum personaly is about, just chatting generally everyday about news, gossip music, movie, and just life, I do have members who are very busy and only log in like maybe once or twice a week to share there stories and contribute as well ya know? I guess my view on this whole forumotion forum deal is I find the forums more inpersonal as it is..I'm all about the free flow of things for my members, understand my forum probably would never work if I set it up this way.I'd lose more member I fear then gain, understand?
But I guess if you are expecting a very active forum and make it known from the get go , like a game to them. It may work on some forums but for mine would be kind of pointless, understand me a lil better now?.lol

Re: MOD: Forum Auth by Post Count
I'm a Eminem (rapper) fan so I'm having forum dedicated to Eminem only....
I'm not saying minimum post count on every forum.... that'll decrease members for sure..... I'm say just create 1 special forum with some post say 100 pots and something special in it... that'll encourage the members to get themselves 100 posts and access that spacial forum...

Re: MOD: Forum Auth by Post Count
Oh ok just 1 special forum type thingy? yeah thats cool.I guess, if you want it like that. I just don't want to say yes to this and have some point system attached to my every forum requiring # sets, ya know? Because then I'll have to come back here, crying to Caihlem That you Mr. Man broke my forum ..and I so do not even wanna go there..haha (<~~~Kidding!)

Re: MOD: Forum Auth by Post Count
This is a great idea. I got a 2001-2007 movies forum in my forum , and I want to block people who just come and watch movies , and that is why I want them to get 15 posts firsts and then I add them in the Movies group.
Some time people annoying to wait for me to onlin and add them in , and I also get anonnying to add them in , cause I have many things to do on my forum.

Re: MOD: Forum Auth by Post Count
Well, Nessa, don't you think it would be good for admins to at least have this option? And what about the maximum posts thing? I'd like to hide some noob forums. And just coz I've always wanted to say it "This message does not await a response" Why do you guys even say that? No, wait, I dont' want to know, because then I would be awaiting a response.......
Re: MOD: Forum Auth by Post Count
See what i mean, everyone else is telling us why its a good idea but you are just spamming.

Re: MOD: Forum Auth by Post Count
Lamer2007 was banned, wasn't he? Or was it just a warning. Kilsek can just say what he wants to say without being moderated by you. No one else seems to have a problem with him voicing his input instead of clicking the non-personal bubble and being off on his merry way. Just because I choose to put in all of my input doesn't mean he should. It's a lot of typing (I think I'm getting carple tunnel *dramatic pose*).
Re: MOD: Forum Auth by Post Count
But that post was from today... Do they do temporary bans here or something?

I have implemented this way on my board. Once they hit a post count, i add them to a VIP user group. That lets them in the VIP room and other rooms beyond that. The Vip room cannot be seen until they are added to the VIP user group. I like it a lot . It is up to the user to PM the admin to add them to that group.
