Forum commands Empty Forum commands

Post by aRt)Y January 27th 2012, 1:50 pm

Hello, i hope it's the correct forum part because couldnt find a better one to post this.

I searched the forum for 'commands' and only found this: https://help.forumotion.com/t44742-auto-commands?highlight=commands

It's from 2009 and really old and i am wondering if something changed with the forum possibilies?
Currently, I am using the censoring option to get a picture posted if someone e.g added [locked] to the post but since all can use it, it's not the perfect solution.

A friend of me has used this in combination with html, i believe - but the censoring line is too short to add more than some letters.

So my second idea would be: Is it possible to code a BBcode? Like [b][/b] just with other functions?
For example: https://help.forumotion.com/t103301-why-icant-add-new-html-page#672797
The picture isn't a png or something similar, it's something like html and i am wondering how you did it (Probably html for the forum activated?)

Thanks,
-art

Well, i meant the 'picture' on the third post of the topic (link) I've posted.
Something like this:
Code:
<font xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1999/xhtml" color="mediumblue">Topic Solved &amp; Locked</font>
But the background and the little icon is missing and i am wondering how he posted it.
With the BBcode i hoped to be able to create such a function.
So if someone posts [lock][/lock] or something similar then the BBcode (bold, italic, underlined, etc.) would automatically post a picture.

That's something one of my staff members made. Not sure if we have any plans to release it.

Oh ok..
Would be really good if you would do that soon because i believe it's an important and really 'powerful' feature which should be added. For now, would it be possible to code & add it to the forum with what i suggested? Doesn't have do be something with html or so - an easy picture or text would be enough.

Well if you are speaking as for ideas or suggestions for Forumotion forums, please post a suggestion thread in the Suggestions section of this support forum, people will either agree or disagree with you. Wink

And by forum commands do you mean typing in commands like in an IRC chatroom and making the system complete that command. For example /basket and the thread would be moved to the basket, is the idea you have?

No. As i said, it doesn't have to be so complex. An easy posted image or text would be enough which would (like the censoring) remove the command for example [lock] with a picture.
The benefit would be a bigger amount of letters you can use since the censoring is limited.

A little off-topic question which isn't worth to create a new topic: Why aren't such 'commands' possible or added in the forums as an option for the users?

My number one thought is abuse, people would abuse this feature. However, suggesting it would be a good idea, so why not do so? Smile

Well, you could add permissons or only make it visible for mods, etc.
But i believe they would have added it already if it's possible.

Seems like i would need to use the censoring.

By the way, i found the html code for the picture (my first post - second link).
