Solved Default Avatar Display

Post by runawayhorses on May 31st 2012, 12:54 pm

Is there a way to change the default avatars for all the members that currently do not have avatars? I've had a default avatar defined for years and just now changed it.

In AP>>Display>>Avatar Gallery>>Avatars Management>> you can define the default avatar but it does not change the already existing default avatars the members currently have. I added a new default avatar and it did nothing. It would seem that the new assigned default avatar will only apply to new members from that point forward that havent selected an avatar to use. So my question is, is there a way to put this new default avatar on all members that do not have an avatar or still have the old default avatar?

Not really, as you already have ascertained the default avatar only appears for newly registered members after the default avatar was added.

Yes, I was hoping that a new default avatar would replace the old one displaying now. So there is no way to remove the old default avatar from the posts and profiles, correct?

What if I deleted the old default avatar from the host what would happen then?

I suppose, nothing will be shown then. Only the username will be displayed.

To check what happens, just delete your avatar image from the host & see what appears. I hope you meant the Servimg site.

Yes, i remember when its deleted from tinypic.com it displays another picture that its been deleted or something. If that was the case, it would look bad in my opinion.

Oh yes good point, same thing with photobucket. So are you saying that serving doesn't do that? The old default avatar is at serving.

Thats the reason i asked you to check. First delete your own avatar image from servimg, you will know then.

Well unfortunately the only avatar I personally uploaded to serving is the old default avatar, if I delete that all the members that never added a avatar will be affected.

Well I deleted it then it had a message saying the image will remain on the server for 30 days before its deleted, so now I have to wait 30 days to find out.

But, is it still displaying the default avatar on your forum?

What will you gain by deleting one of them for a particular user?

In the memberlist and posts yes it is displaying.

I will gain the knowledge of knowing in 30 days another image in its place "Image was deleted" won't show.

Yes, thats better than displaying a image that a image was deleted. lol

I think what I will do is go to each member profile that has the old default avatar url and replace it with the new default avatar url. How does that sound?
