Solved Problem with Avatars

Post by alacarr on September 1st 2012, 3:12 am

First, I need to get enough posts to be able to send a pm, so I can pm one of the staff because I lost my password. Sad Didn't lose it actually, I'm 100% sure I know it.

But anyway, I've got a problem on my forum. When someone uses the option "Link to an off-site Avatar :" for some reason the image isn't formated to the 200x200 size i've set avatars too. So if they link to a large image using this option, it stays large. Here's an example.http://forum.jokejungle.org/t9-avatar-problem#28 That huge image of spongebob is the kids avatar. Anybody know the fix? Or is this problem unique.

The problem of linking to an off-site avatar and it not responding to the size restrictions is not unique by any stretch of the imagination. There are codes however that will restrict the avatar size on the forum posts where you normally see the avatars, but I found that in the profile pages the size was not restricted, it was full size. It seems that linking off-site avatars are exempt from this restriction. I wish I had a fix for you but I never found an answer.

Just letting you know its not a unique problem. What I did was resized the pic and re-uploaded it. Only happened once. Good luck with finding an answer. Smile

Is there a way to disable the option all together? So they'd have to upload from their computer or use the option "Upload an Avatar from a URL :'? These do not have the resize problem.

Solved Re: Problem with Avatars

Good question, Its not an option in the Admin panel but its probably doable with some coding. There might be a way to "hide" the linking to an off-site Avatar.

Most likely someone will post a code that restricts the avatars size, I've seen them before and tried them. I would suggest trying it too and see what happens, but be sure to check the members avatar in there profile page like I mentioned above. Of course you could test it yourself by linking a large avatar. If that doesn't work and the avatar is indeed re-sized in the posts but not re-sized in the profile, then maybe someone can post a code to hide the off-site avatar option altogether.

I'll see what I can do. Thanks for the help.
