Solved alwalys on top flashing guest pop up

Post by KCUF on September 21st 2012, 1:27 am

This hack allows you to have a popup for guests that asks them to register. It flashes and will be displayed until the user logs in (a log in box is featured in the popup
does anyone know how to do this?

Do you mean like the pop-up message that appears on the support forum?

KCUF none of these things you say are hacks lol. They are things you CAN do no hacking. but go to overall_header in templates

ACP>DISPLAY>TEMPLATES>GENERAL>OVERALL_HEADER

create a html for this, via animated GIF,or some coding. such as

Code:
<span>HELLO GUEST THIS IS A MESSAGE YOU'LL SEE TILL LOGGED IN</span>

you can use that until you find what you want,

place it in between these tags

Code:
<!-- BEGIN switch_user_logged_out -->]
<!-- END switch_user_logged_out -->

and that will make it show only to logged out members. You can also show specific things to logged in users by doing this

Code:
]<!-- BEGIN switch_user_logged_in -->
]<!-- END switch_user_logged_in -->

OR

You can tick yes to a login popup like SLG is talking about, I like my way, since they logged out members will see it until logged in or registered

here KCUF, I got your PM asking to make the code, I'm just going to state, this was a quick code so you can change to what you like ok.

PLACE THIS CODE IN YOUR CSS
Code:

.loginflash{
   width:100%;
   top:0;
   left:0;
   height:50px;
   background:url('http://i33.servimg.com/u/f33/17/53/64/59/images12.jpg');
   position:fixed;
   color:#fff;
   text-shadow:3px 3px 3px #00ff00;
   -moz-text-shadow:3px 3px 3px #00ff00;
   -webkit-text-shadow:3px 3px 3px #00ff00;
    }
    .trsize{
    text-align:center;
     }
    .left{width:25% }
    .middle{width:50%;}
    .right{width:25%;}

Place this code right below the <body> tag in your templates. ACP>DISPLAY>TEMPLATES>GENERAL>OVERALL_HEADER

Code:

<!-- BEGIN switch_user_logged_out -->
<div class="loginflash">
<div>
<table width="100%">
<tr class="trsize">
<td class="left"><img src="http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/thumb/9/92/Caution_sign_used_on_roads_pn.svg/600px-Caution_sign_used_on_roads_pn.svg.png" height="40px" /></td>
<td><img src="http://www.free-animations.co.uk/words/warning/images/warning_3.gif" align="left"></td>
<td class="middle">!CAUTION!<br /> YOU MUST BE LOGGED IN TO GET ALL THE BENEFITS OF OUR WEBSITE</td>
<td><img src="http://www.free-animations.co.uk/words/warning/images/warning_3.gif"></td>
<td class="right"><img src="http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/thumb/9/92/Caution_sign_used_on_roads_pn.svg/600px-Caution_sign_used_on_roads_pn.svg.png" height="40px"/></td>
<tr>
</table>
</div>
<!-- END switch_user_logged_out -->

Login pop-up, maybe?

1. ACP.
2. Advanced mode.
3. General tab.
4. Configuration under Forum box.

Yeah Darkglow, me and SLG advised the OP about that. Lol, but problem is that the pop up can be ignored, he wants something that will stay until logged in. Basically an annoying banner/thing haha, that will encourage people to register/login Smile

Though remember KC, keep it simple, don't try to annoy or encourage like this to much. What i gave you is clean, and won't annoy them too much, but will slightly encourage them to register or sign in. Don't go too big, nor too cluttered. What keeps people at a sight is visual, if your site is cluttered then people will leave, too bright people won't want to strain their eyes trying to look at your sight. Too dark will make things hard to see/read. So everything can be prevented. Any more questions please write in topic, send me a PM only when you create a new topic that you need help with if you want my help. I will see that you posted, since I mark all my posted topics as watched.

Thanks KC.Hope it helped it altogether Smile

The forum default login popup can be set so it can't be ignored. Just thought you might like to know that for future reference. If you want to see it in action click my forum icon and try and "ignore" the popup. Smile

Thanks, I took away the ability to remove the login popup with CSS code by removing the buttons, and totally redesigned the default login popup with new buttons excluding the "do not display again" button.

Remove buttons: This works for phpbb3 and Invision:
Code:
#login_popup .h3 , #login_popup_buttons {
    display: none;
    }
