In progress Post Notification - visual reference on forum?

Post by Guest March 15th 2013, 12:31 pm

Hi all,

This might be relatively simple to answer.

One of the moderators of the site has asked me if there is a visual reference to any post replies on older posts. I put the forum together a while back and have left it to them to manage. We get email notifications when a new topic is created. But as it shifts down the table and older posts are replied to, is there a visual reference to this. There's a blue dot near some of there, and I can't remember if that indicates a reply to something I that has been posted?

Here's an image, at the bottom there is the blue dot i was referring too:
Post Notification - visual reference on forum? Forum

Any help with this query much appreciated.

That blue dot indicates, that you have posted in that thread before.

Thanks for your quick reply Sanket.

Does the dot remove itself if you were the last poster of that topic? The problem is the moderator has so many people posting replies, he doesn't know which ones need to go back to. I guess a 'solved' button might help?

How would that be applied?

Nopes, it just adds a icon if you have ever replied in that thread.

I don't exactly know what you are looking for, so i don't know if a solved button might help you or not. The example of how we add the solved tags, when a support request is complete or if the user put it, we know that the thread is solved without even entering the thread.

What we need, is a way of highlighting any replied posts, without manually looking at who's posted last.

People are asking questions, it's used as a support forum. I guess kind of like what you have here?

This was the message I was sent by the moderator as the forum is getting busier.

"I've answered all the e-mail alerts and then also log in and manually scroll down looking for questions - if I'm not the last one to say something I have a look - but as you can imagine as it gets busier it will take an hour just to go thro every single post just to check"

Do you have any suggestions on the best approach to this?

Thanks again.

I guess what we really would like to do is have some way of highlighting a further query to the post reply. As opposed to chit chat. Is there some way we can get the posters to re-highlight that post as important to look at?

Well, add the In progress icon? Just as its added for your thread. So, the moderator knows, that the thread is not yet solved.
