I am sure that many people would like the inclusion of a way to restrict access to members that did not require them removing their usergroup access.
If there was a usergroup which would over ride the normal usergroups access and you could add people to that group to restrict what they can see. On my forum I have a number of usergroups which automatically give access to sections when a certain post count has arrived. If I have a problem user I put them on a time out with restricted posting rights, however I also have to remove them from whichever usergroups they are members of and have to remove the autosubscribe the the many usergroups that have that feature for the length of their restrictions or they automatically get access back to those groups even if I remove them.

IF there was a superusergroup that could remove access to normal usergroups it would make life so much easier for admins that do not want to ban those that get into trouble.

Oh, I see what you mean. What you are requesting is for some specific BAN group to automatically bar those whom you have banned from accessing those User Group sections they are members of. When the ban ends after a certain amount of time as determined by the Admin, the Banned member is automatically allowed to access those User Group sections they belong to.

I like that idea. Would be quite helpful.

yep thats it in a nutshell.
that way a person would only need to be added to the group instead of removing them from several groups.
I am not quite sure how it would be implemented but you would need to be able to add a user and the specific groups.
some clever chap must be able to code it.

I don't see how hard it could be for them to code it. When a member is banned, that member can't log in until the ban time expires. And when it has expired, that member is able to exercise their User Group privileges automatically. The Admin does not need to manually put them back in.

So the idea for the semi-banned member to be denied those User Group privileges while retaining their status is automatically taken care of. No need for the Admin to do that manually, and more importantly, no need to conveniently kick the member out just to discipline them. Having limited access can do more wonders in correcting such a member.

    I support this idea.

Recently I had to remove access to a section for one users and had to disable whole group permissions for that and some of my general forum configurations.

    This would definitely help, yes.

well yes and no, if you are banning member then that may well work. however I restrict access to the naughty children and will allow them to post in specific sections and only view others.

If you have groups that give automatic access to sections when a certain post count is reached then you have to disable that option or it becomes a loophole that they can exploit.
I suppose it depends on how complex your forum is as to whether this would be a useful tool.
