Derri already posted the bulk of information but for me there is one difference that stands out. In phpbb2 there are categories but in phpbb3 there are none.

Sorry I don't quite understand what you mean by categories? You can change the structure in PHPBB3 to show categories. Sorry I'm not quite sure what you mean.

I guess the categories aren't as seperate and don't stick out as much compared to phpbb2. Phpbb3 is to crammed for me.

LOL Jolo dose not seem to give phpbb2 a very good review, However i think phpbb2 is the best and being able to edit templates makes a world of difference, as far as appearances all can still be customized through css even for phpbb2.

Funny at the time phpbb2 was in the works to be removed. Man i hope not , even though it is very old still one of the best in my opinion, Unless i was using a real phpbb board on my own server, then phpbb3 is the only way to go. But what it comes down to is use the version you like the best and works best for you, thats the cool thing abaout forumotion, they give you a small varity to choose from. Jolokim seemd to pretty much nail the descriptions

Anyway. Dose that pretty much answer your question so we can mark this solved and move to archives?

Yeah, phpBB 2 is an old classic and exceptionally nice as everything can be customized, forumotion really did good work with adding templates, that way, phpBB 2 turned into a must have. I use phpBB 2 on all of my forums because templating and general stability of the forum is something I cannot live without. Well, virtually cannot live without.
