Should Forumotion offer installation of MODs in control panel?

Dear Forumotion staff,

I was wondering whether it is possible to install phpbb modifications (MODs) on Forumotion hosted forum? If not, is such feature planned in near future?

How would u get a REAL PHPBB mod added into MODIFIED phpbb/ipb/whatever else they've added in -type of forum?

there is just one problem with this suggestion.

Forumotions forums are hand built. They didn't go to phpbb and say can we have a phpbb2 and a phpbb3 forum?

No they built a phpbb2 and 3 forum from scratch using phpbb techology.
thats why we can't install mods from other phpbb site...
same applies to other versions.

the punBB version we have is something inbetween the old punbb and the most recent one.

Well then why can't Forumotion create their own MODs? Mods are easy to create. I know I can't create them, but a ton of members on the PHPBB forums sure know how. They probably use their own technology, but it should be possible for this host to create their own if they just tried. Even if it was just one which was created, it would still be cool to have it.

Yes they should. So that the forum owners can decide which mods. they want and which they dont !!!

I like this idea, but technically and practically speaking this would be impossible to do. There is no automated MOD installation system for phpBB, invision OR punBB. Furthermore an automated MOD installation service would be both heavy on server resources AND require DB access.

Forumotion DOES create its own MODs, in a way - the whole system is modified from the original phpbb software. That is how we have advanced profile and such. The techs have to install these based on demand from the suggestions. There is no way we can install our own. And for the record, MODs are NOT easy to create as someone said earlier. It takes a lot of time and patience to make them, test them, and ensure they are compatiable with previous modifications.

So for all of those reasons, my vote is a resounding no .

I vote yes to this. Mods are quite easy to create, but I would vote for a better MOD installation than phpbb has. Instructions on cutting and pasting boxes of code to certain places gets a bit old. An auto-installer would be nice.

This would stir so much trouble, the staff would be so helplessly lost with all the support requests that they'd all be begging me to return

And if you can't do it because what you said early then atleast make lots of mods where we can decide if we want them like make loads of mods have a plug-in thing in admin pannel and select whether you want the mod

Then you must be thinking of SMF based forum hosts.
