Solved I need help with the profile page layout

Post by OMMA on May 5th 2014, 4:25 am

I'm trying to modify the layout from one column to two columns.  One column looks like this...

I made some changes in the CSS sheet to make it two columns.  Here is the code.

Code:
#profile-advanced-layout {
  float: none;
  margin: 0px;
  padding: 0px;
  width: 1054px;
  }
#profile-advanced-left {
  float : left;
  margin: 52px 0px 0px 0px;
  padding: 0px;
  width: 450px;
  }
#profile-advanced-right {
  float: right;
  margin: 0px;
  padding: 0px;
  width: 400px;
  }

All I did was changed the profile-advanced-left float from none to left and the right one from none to right as well as adjusted the widths.  This was the result.

A - The "Visitor Message,  Profile, Statistics and Contact" buttons are transparent.  How can I add color or better yet replace them with image buttons?

B - the "Send" button needs to be repositioned.  I want it in accordance with the buttons listed above.

C - The link is in a bad position.  I'd like to know the code to position it properly.

D - The "Friends List" link is cut off.  How can I move it up so its visible?

E - The background is transparent.  I want the same black background image that's used for the forum body.  See the top image to see what I mean.  The background shows when its one column but when I change it to two its transparent as if no image is designated to that area.

Anyone want to tackle this?  Thanks in advance.

Solved Re: I need help with the profile page layout

Post by OMMA on May 16th 2014, 9:34 pm

Problem A is solved.  I searched and found this code...

Code:
#tabs ul li a {
  background: #333333;
  }
#tabs ul li.hovertab a {
  background: #cc0000;
  }
#tabs ul li.activetab a {
  background: #999999;
  }

As for B - E,  I've been trying to figure them out but unfortunately I'm not having any success.  Can someone please help me out?  I can only get as far as making it two columns but as you can see in the image I posted the background becomes transparent instead of the black image that shows when its one column.  This happens when I change the float attribute.

Anyone?

Yes I'm confused.  I've given pictures of how the profiles look and what I'm trying to achieve.  Is that not enough info to know what needs to be done.  If not and you need to see the profiles then cant I just change it so guests have rights to see them?  I've done that so you should be able to see them now.  I do not want to leave it that way for long so I hope that's what you need and you can solve this soon.  Thanks in advance.

You said you needed a test account because you couldn't see the profiles as a guest.  Well I have given guests permission to see the profiles.  Why do you still keep requesting for this test account thing?

Been on a family vacation, sorry for late reply, give this a try buddy.
- Add this to your CSS instead: (Give me the screenshot after applying the CSS since you're logged in as a user and i'm viewing the profile as guest only so it is normal that i can't view some features of the profile page)
Code:
#profile-advanced-right {
float: right !important;
width: 300px !important;
}
#profile-advanced-left {
float: left !important;
width: 600px !important;
}
div#profile-advanced-right div.main-content.clearfix {
padding-bottom: 20px !important;
}

Thank you for your time.  Unfortunatley the results are the same as what I posted in the opening post.  The only thing your code did seem to fix was the link at the bottom of the friends box shows now.  That at least fixes 1 of the problems I have listed.  B,  C and E still exist.

I was in Foreclosure and had to move my stuff into storage while we looked for a new place to live. (that's my lack of presence, and tutorials) I'm still getting settled, since I only got back a few weeks ago, so I apologize if I am not able to help as frequent as I was. I've only been able to stop on for a few minutes / hours. There is a chance I may overlook your topic if it is not active, again I apologize if I do.

B
I'm not seeing this, probably because I am logged out. It is not in position with the other buttons since it is separate; usually an image.

C
See first sentence in B.

D
Your OVERFLOW is set to hidden on the .module class. Ex :
Code:
.module {
    overflow: hidden !important;
}

It should be set to visible so the content is not clipped.

E
I do not see this, everything is in one column.

Perhaps you could clarify, or give a recap on your problem ?

Thanks Smile

Thank you for your response and apology accepted.

A and B
solved.

C
My profile page is currently one column because of the problems I'm having.  Please see the second image in the original post to see whats wrong.  Basically I need control over the placement of the link.

D
Halfway solved.  I changed the code from hidden to visible but now it is not inside the block.  It shows a bit lower overlapping the footer.

E
Same response given for C

First remove the CSS you used to try and fix your body problem. You're removing the floats, they are what help place elements side by side.

When you have done that add the following code to your CSS :
Code:
#main-content { overflow:hidden; }

This will help ensure the body spans the entire height of the floated elements in the profile. Hidden clips content that exceeds the parents dimensions. So, if you notice clipping change overflow:hidden; to overflow:auto; to display a scroll bar.

Thank you for your response.  I didn't add that CSS code.  It was already in the style sheet.  I also didn't remove the floats.  They were set to none by default resulting in one column.  I changed them to left and right to make two columns.  They are back to none atm.

I added the code you posted and it did not solve the problem.  The link is still not inside the friends box.  I changed hidden to auto and it added a scroll bar but the link remains under the box.

I am also no longer needing E solved.  I just want C and D solved now.

Add this to your CSS for the links. Whoever did the navbar forgot to use the parent in the selector set and only used a.mainmenu. Because of this we'll just set the position to static
Code:
.module a.mainmenu { position:static !important; }

OK this moved the link back inside the box.  Thank you.  Now I need to solve C.  Look at the 2nd pic in the first post.
