Co-Founder Power Selection

Post by Hagoromo Otsutsuki on February 14th 2015, 8:37 am

I have thought of this idea before but didn't have the mind to post it but.....

We all have friends and or people we meet to set a website the only difference is
Forumotion options with powers.
We can only create Moderators and admin.....why not Co-Founders?

Yes we MAY give them the title but the power is the same as a admin which is very deadly but this is a good suggestion across forums.

Co-Founder powers
Can't be deranked only by admin
Cant edit founder profile
Can add/de-rank admin/moderators
Can ban members.
Can have basic forum power
Cant delete forum
Cant rename forum
Can send emails and etc

This is a good idea and I hope to have everyone's open opinion?

This will never happened.  Why would you want someone else who can delete your forum?

Then just add the member to the administrators group and give the rank of Co-Founder.

The only way this would work is to have two founder accounts which is not possible.

Yes.

You can make your new account after creating forum, and give friend to make his. And you two have pass of first. That way you two will be able to acces founder's account. This suggestionn don't make any sense to me yet... But I will not vote Smile

Well really all FM needs to do is create a new level of permission either in the form of a dedicated hidden group only editable by the founder OR an option in the users profile that's tick-able only by the founder. I think its actually something that's needed because there is so many founder only options that don't need to be exclusive to the founder but you might not want 'regular' admins to have.

It would also help if it was customizable in some way.

So its more than possible.

I can see many issues with this suggestion.  It is better when you have only the founder with all the power.

I think the only the way this possible at present is to have 1 of you create the forum, have 1 founder account with a shared password between the 2, then each of you have another seperate account with just admin priviliedges and give each other the rank. Not a bad idea though, voting yes Smile.

Only permission I would want to edit is the Templates section. The founder of my forums has no idea what he's doing code-wise.

So I, as a normal admin can only edit the css and js, not so much as the design.

But another cool idea would be that Moderators can be able to change ranks. That would facilitate so much.

I still believe it is the best policy to only have one founder that can see everything in the administration panel. You would have to really trust someone to have access to the templates and credits.

You would really have to trust someone to make them an administrator too. I dont think giving template access to other administrators can hurt anything. As some site founders arent too good with code and have other admins handle that, thus if any changes need to be made to the template now the founder has to literally post them up, the other adminds have to make the modifications in the code itself then re post the newly modified template up so the founder can add them.

It is a whole process which I feel un needed and it would be much easier just for the other admins to make modifications on behalf of the founder

They could just DO IT not have to post this, post that, etc.

I feel if you cant trust someone enough to know they will only mess with the templates if they know they are doing and wont mess anything up. If an admin doesnt know how to modify the templates then it is simple: DONT TOUCH THEM THEN. Lol

Common sense, I dont know how to do this, I dont wanna mess anything up so I just wont go anywhere near this.

If I can't trust someone enough to know their own limitations and trust them to use their power only for the benefit of the site, then I wouldnt make them an admin, period.

I like this idea. A lot.

I would love to use my regular admin account to do stuff instead of hopping on the founder account.

Cause as a Founder you can edit templates in PHPBB3 whereas a regular Admin cannot.

The only thing that should be different from Founder ranks and Co-Founder ranks should be the fact that Founder can delete the forum and Co-Founder cannot.
