Pro Admin #2040 False email @free-mail.top

    Post by itoh 18th February 2016, 00:46

Several different "people" have joined our forum using the same email (@free-mail.top) location. Is there any way to stop people from joining my forum using the same "@free-mail.top?" I know I can ban each person, but can I ban that email = @free-mail.top?
None of those who joined with that email (@free-mail.top) are members of our school.

P.S. If I can't ban a certain email location (@free-mail.top), can I have new members info e-mailed to me before they are allowed to enter (sign-in to our forum), so that we can approve each new member attempting to register?

Our forum just saw same thing (dubiousname@free-mail.top). Can somebody trace the domain to see who is doing it?

    Hello,

Do a google search on .top domain names, lots of info on it. It was invented and distributed by a chinese company.

    Hey,

I had the same problem on one of my forums, I contacted @Buttercup because it seemed to be a form of spam and in turn she opened a ticket for it. I also let her know about your topic, so hopefully she'll see it tomorrow. In the mean time, if you're still getting registrations that appear to be spam I'd recommend setting the user activation to "admin" and activate non-spam accounts manually.

This is not hacking your forum this is just a account made on your forum.

Hacking your forum is when they take over your forum and remove the accounts or posts on your forum.

If this the members making the account do not post on your forum it is upto you if you delete there accounts or not but you risk deleting a new member.

my advice is for you to keep an eye on this member and see if they post and if they do and it's just spam then ban them

    Greetings everyone.
After having this problem, I set the user activation to 'user' which seems to have effectively stopped the account-spammers, which seem to be most likely bots due to their behavior Also I uncovered one of the IP address one of the spammers, I was lead back to Amsterdam, Netherlands.

If possible, can my forum receive some assistance, kindly? We've gotten over 600 of these spammers and would like a bit of help in the cleaning up process however possible.
    http://remage.fantasyboard.net/
Note: Yes, it's a forumotion board, it was however renamed for more appeal.

Update: This method didn't last long sadly, they're still making more. Switching to admin approval and banning @free-mail.top.

Update: I've found a way to resolve this:
    1. Ban the email address "@free-mail.top" which will cease spam email creation.
    2. Delete all users associated with the email (their name will be lowercase and numbers at the end) through "Handle users" and using "Have less than 1 messages" to select them (As they won't post anything) but be sure to sort through any newly made accounts that are valid(human and willing to participate in the forums).
This worked for me through PhpBB2.
    Thank you for reading,
    Have a great day.

    Woohoo, thanks Buttercup.

I also recieved new registations from these e-mail addresses, after a bit of researching and seeing how wide spread these were on Forumotion, I banned the accounts before they could strike, but did not delete them.

If you need anymore information on the ones that registered on my forum @Buttercup , let me know.

Thank you for being in touch with me,

Um I have advised our admin and founder to switch the validation of new members to admin and not delete no more until someone can look into it, our some ... I don't know just shy of a hundred in the last twenty four hours, some deleted some not and have ALL come from a historiaroja.pl

can this one be banned too? please?

I am moderator under the same user name of TMNT Origins; http://tmntorigins.forumotion.com

Please help it is making it uncomfortable for our small regular member base to come in and really stretching our admins time thin.

    All help greatly appreciated.

    Thanks,
