Automerge Double Post Empty Automerge Double Post

Post by Guest March 14th 2009, 8:27 am

I think there should be a option that admin's can choose weither their site doesn't allow double posts. The post that the person does after their own post merges into the first post, if you get what I mean. Do you think this is a good idea?

    Edit:

    More suggestions:

1/ The automerge only happens until the time you set it to allow another post.
2/ There will be a option to disable this option.

This is a example of a Vbulletin mod that is similar to the MyBB and Smf version.

There should be a option so you can disable the double post for the forum and have a option so you can select that admins can only double post.

Voted no, it's called set it up on your forum so your users can only post one time per x seconds; this isn't vBulletin.

No, its not Vbulletin. And, so. Xiroas, may I guess you think PhpBB and all those other forum softwares are Vbulletin? NO they are not. Each forum software has this either default added or someones made a mod of it.

    Sorry, but I've voted No.
Think about this: A member posts on a thread, then 1 week later wants to bump it with a double post which is acceptable over a 24 hour period, how will he be able to do this, because the post will just merge with the old one.

    See my point?

Surprisingly, i think this is an excellent idea. I voted yes. But under 1 simple condition :

Double posts get merged IF they are under 24 hour time line
AFTER 24 hours, double post DOES NOT get merged

I think thats fair and solves all problems and hesitates.

I voted yes, on the condition that it is optional to use. And that you can edit the options etc. Like, make it how many ever hours you would like to not have double posting. I'd probably go 12 to be honest.

In any case, voted yes! Wink

It would be either added in the section of the menu item "config" or a new menu item would be made for it.

If this were to be added, I'm not sure that it'd have its very own section in the admin panel. As you said, maybe in configuration, or maybe in Messages & emails.

you can turn this feature on, and just turn off when you don't like..
    so whats wrong? XD..

i suggest also to have an admin set the time when the auto merge will be disabled.

    example..

if the admin put "2" in the number of hours:
    number of hours: 2

    then:
after 2 hours you can bump the thread again.. and the auto merge will not do something..

I must agree with everyone. It's a perfect idea. I'm no double-poster myself, however, having the feature would really brighten Administrator's & Moderators jobs.

From a person as wise and smexy as me, it's a yes!
