How would I allow my forum to be seen, but people would need to register in order to Read messages and Post and/or Reply to messasges?

On every forum's permissions, untick all the guest boxes.

General => Categories and Forums
select a form and edit the permissions so only registered users can post/reply to topics

But they can still view the messasges?
I don't want them to be able to View the messages.
They can view the forum's main page, but should not be able to view messages unless they are Registered.

(View, but not read.)

Try this:
Admin panel>general>categories & forums> go to permissions of all forums>advanced mode>make sure the 'read topics' box is unchecked for guests permission>save

(Would you know ... Regarding the ads... I have "Guests" checked. Does that mean only guests will see the ad and members will not see ads, after they sign in?)

Glad I could help. About the ads, yes, only guests can see it if you have those settings.
