Chat room moderator

Can I have a member as moderator of the chat room without them being an administrator or moderator of the general forum ie: no access to the administration panel, and would not be able to view topics solely for admin?

I think you can. Do it in the admin panel.

Modules>Chatbox>Moderators
Add the username there.

Thank you. I have done that, just wasnt sure if they would give them access to the admin panel or be able to view threads only open to the administrators and moderators of the forum.

Nopes, just make them mods on the chatbox.
