How to set up a private forum?

I got some answers yet I'm quite puzzled at finding a solution as how to set up a private forum... just joined as a newbie yesterday so it's quite a challenge for me. ah lol

Just want a private forum where no public quest could see any forum lists shown except the login page shown on the front.

Is there a manual guide or something so I could use it in order to set it up properly?

General>Categories and forums
click on a forum name
Permissions tab
Then for guests, uncheck all the options & that should be it.

Okay, is it possible to set it up even before any new members coming in?

Well make the settings now, so who ever surfs your site wont be able to see it now.
