Facebook link problems
Hi guys
Ive been trying to link Facebook to my forum using the admin panel configuration that was recently added , i can enter the forum name and URL , then copy the 2 security words its asking for then when i submit it it times out saying an error has occured .
Is anyone else having this problem and is it a problem with facebook itself or what im doing ?
Any advice would be great
Many thanks
Ian

Re: Facebook link problems
I am sure this isn't a problem with us. If you could give me a screenshot of the error message(s) I would be able to tell you a better answer.

Re: Facebook link problems
I might have the solution. Go to https://www.facebook.com/developers/ and click on your Application, at the right of the page. Once you're on the new page, click on "Edit Settings".
On the "Website" tab, paste the link to your forum on Site URL. Then hit save, go to your website, see if it works.
I remember there used to be a "Connect" tab a few months ago, but the Devs seem to have updated it.
* Not meaning to spam, but I own a forum called Facebook Forum where we provide Facebook help and support to over 50 people a day, over 5,000 solved problems already. Link is [ Promotional Spam Link Removed. Sneaky "Not meant to be spam "Spam". Get real! ] in case you still or ever need help with Facebook

Nice reply and answer there the listener.
hopefully that should do it. i had a similar problem like this with a social network i have been creating. and i had to do almost the exact thing aalong with a few others too
as far as setting it up on forumotion i not yet tried it.. but will do a few test of my own.
hopefully that should do it though.. sometimes some of the facebook stuff from facebook make things seem more complicated then they really are.
i hate facebook... hahaha myspace is better... but faceook is taking over

Re: Facebook link problems
Thanks, kirk That's true, Facebook is really cool when it comes to some stuff (easy navigating and arranging photos, high quality videos, good privacy settings) but the worst site even when it comes to others (editing settings, coding applications, etc.). Their support blows as well. My site gets LOTS of questions about disabled accounts a day.. [ Promotional Spam Link Removed ] just have a look yourself! And luckily, that's what makes my site attractive for help-seekers
Facebook should definitely have a support center like Zynga does... you report an issue, and the day after you get a personal reply from a worker with the solution to your issue... simply amazing! On Facebook, though, they don't give a damn about reports.
And back to Forumotion, it's not always 'A Facebook issue' like ignorant people say. They're just repeating what Typlo told them on the tutorial he wrote, who was, IMO, pretty poor and difficult to understand. He missed A LOT of important points, like for example, how to add a canvas page for your app. Was that specified? No. That does means it can't be done? Of course not! Applications on Facebook are harder than you even think, and coding them can be a pain in the butt even to Dion. They use weird coding languages like FBML, PHP, etc. etc. But to make Facebook Connect work the easy way, you must only keep this in mind:
1. Activate the module from the Admin Panel
2. Go to Facebook Developers site and find the JavaScript SDK code (the one that starts with the fb-root div) and paste it on an announcement on your forum/homepage.
3. Choose your website as the one for your app with the procedure I told you about above. This way the Facebook API will know what only site on the entire world wide web is able to use that app for Facebook Connect.
That should be all, and if you're clever enough, you may even customize your app to the point your forum is completely linked with Facebook. Unfortunately, Forumotion hasn't reached that level yet. Only vBulletin has.
