Reputation Bar

I've used Mario's link to the tutorial that shows you how to change the reputation bar to your own image, and as a reply to that topic, there is another tutorial explaining how to add your own '+' and '-' icons for the voting above and below the reputation bar.

I've followed the instructions precisely, and when I click save to save the code, I get an error message and the template defaults. This is the error:

"Error

The tag has been closed before being opened or the tag hasn't been opened."

Here is the codes the guide said to replace:

Could anyone please help me with what I'm doing wrong? I've tried adding tag ends and moving other things around, but I'm clueless.

Anyone? I really want to get rid of the text based + and - symbols.

I decided to just try it again, and the template saved without any problems. Case Closed.
