Are we allowed to change the appearance of the footer by removing some links? If we can, what links must be there, if any?

Thanks for the reply! I have visited the link you have posted but the answer is rather unclear. One person says its ok as long as you keep some and another say its not ok at all. I would like to know for sure because I don't want my forum closing because of something I could have prevented

Its not allowed. Don't risk your forum being deleted just to modify the footer.

If you know html and have templates, you can add stuff through the "General>>overall_footer" template. However, NEVER remove anything that was already there.

I thought you were allowed to remove everything but the Phpbb, Report An Abuse, and Forumotion. Is that wrong?

The answer to your question, No, you are not allowed to remove any links.
Typlo has also stated this sometime in late 2009.

However, you ARE allowed to add your own information, text, links, and copyright information there.
As far a changing the words, forum "Report an abuse" to "abuse", and "free forums" to "powered by forumotion" ect, I'm not too sure

I would assume you could, however, as a precaution, I'd rather change the permission level of it.
Admin panel >> users & Groups > Special permissions > stats > Admin (or none)
