Solved How can I add 'forgot password?' option to my forum for users?

Post by dotdotdot March 2nd 2011, 7:55 pm

Hi all

I hope this is a simple question, but couldn't find it in searching. Some of my forum members forget their passwords to log into the forum. The problem is that there's no "forgot your password?" option for them to retrieve their password.

Is there a simple way to do this? I see that it's available on this forum and most sites there's always an option to ask the site to email the password to their email address.

I use phbb3 forum. Also, not sure if this is relevant but because of problems with trolls, I've set the forum so that the same email address can't change username. This makes it even more important that users can ask for their password to be emailed to them if they forget it.

Many thanks for your help.

Yeah, you're meant to be able to see the forum, it's not secret.

But to participate you need to register and some of my members have forgotten their password.

It must be possible because this very forum has that option. How was that done?

I've been on your forum and the link is there for me on the log in page. You can't miss it and it is there by default with no option to disable it for normal members. Here is a screenshot of my finding:

Ah, figured it out - today I added the 'profile' widget to the forum and that's what I think your screenshot is of, Base.

I'm absolutely certain there wasn't a log in box on the left side of the forum before I added the widget.

Oh well, accidentally solved and many thanks for the help.
