Help Changing one Image.

I would like to change a background image, shown below. I know how to, but have a question about size. Do I have to create it in a certain size before I can change it? I want the background only, all one color.

hmmm you should atleast resize your BG to 1024 and up.. mine is 1500 x 937 and it works fine
