Facebook Connect Button Permissions Empty Facebook Connect Button Permissions

Post by Noel Myint Sun 8 May - 8:59

Dear Forumotion Support,
I am trying to setup a game support forum for some of the FB Games that me & my friends play.
I am using phpBB2. I am the Co-founder but I also do have Founder access.
EDIT:: I am using the Forumotion "Facebook Connect" module.

I have run into a rather perplexing problem; the Facebook Connect permissions.
Ideally I would only need Basic Information from the User that use the Connect to Facebook Button, but by default it is requesting permissions for Basic Info; Email; Access data anytime; Access Profile information. I am getting some requests from Users who are squeamish about the Access data anytime; Access Profile information permissions.
After searching the forums and playing around a bit with the index_body.tpl I managed to set the permissions for the Facebook Connect Button for Basic Information and Email as below;
Original Code:
Code:

<td width="35%" class="align_gauche"><fb:login-button size="large" onlogin="window.location='/facebook_connect.forum'" v="2" perms="{switch_user_login_form_footer.switch_fb_connect.L_FB_PERMISSIONS}">{switch_user_login_form_footer.switch_fb_connect.L_FB_LOGIN_BUTTON}</fb:login-button></td>
Modified Code:
Code:

<td width="35%" class="align_gauche"><fb:login-button size="large" onlogin="window.location='/facebook_connect.forum'" v="2" perms="email">Connect with Facebook</fb:login-button></td>
Now this is only working for the 'Connect with Facebook' button that shows up on my forum's Home Page.

If a new User clicks on 'Login' (the /login) page, the Facebook Connect Button that shows there is different, 'Login with Facebook' and is asking for all permissions (basic info, email, data access, profile info). Also the 'Assosiate your Facebook account' button on the registration (/register?agreed=true&step=2) page is asking for all permissions.

My question is how can I change the perm= settings for those two buttons ?
Thank you for taking the time to read my rather long post.
I wasn't sure whether I could attach screenshots in my post, so I opted not to.

Cheers,

Noel Smile

Hi,

You could use the built in fb log in Wink
Admin panel >> Modules > Facebook configuration Smile

I am using the Module Darren Smile this is regarding the permissions that "Facebook Connect" Button is asking for, IMHO Basic Info is more than enough for a forum link.. why is it asking for Basic Info, Email access, Offline Access, and Profile Access ?? from the looks of things, this is the default perms= on the Facebook Connect button that is installed by the Forumation Facebook Module.

Has anyone really checked on this ? Personally I am not comfortable at all giving all those unnecessary permissions for linking my Facebook account to a Forum.

Sorry my mistake >.<

Well, we cannot change what perms are being requested, as this is the default tool, which is recommended by fb, when adding this tool to our sites.
The only way to change it, is get your message passed to a tech, via using the suggestion room.
I do agree with you, that it is too much info being passed on for a forum, but that's why I'm using the default way; where I add in all my details by hand loove

dont it come down to setting your face book privacy options on your FB account?
If you have your options set for no one to see your profile unless they are a friend then no one will see it.Dunno i am not understanding the question either but would think it would have to come down to how one has their privacy settings set on their FB page?
