monitoring registration of new community members

is it possible to amend the registration fields required to be filled out by prospective forum members?

I would like to make it mandatory for members to provide their full names to the administration upon registering (however ensure only their username is visible to the rest of the forum community. Is this possible?

You could add sone fields in the registration process. But, I don't think that they MUST fill it. Try it though.

You can create a profile field for it and set it to 'Necessarily filled' so that it will be shown to the registration form, here's a guide about profile fields:
